The Department of Public Works Nova Scotia’s 23,000 kilometers of roads and highways, 4100 bridges, and 9 provincial ferries. The Vehicle Transportation Inspection Division of Public Works is responsible for inspection and compliance of all vehicles that use our highways. We inspire public confidence in the public passenger transportation service through education and enforcement of Acts and Regulations that pertain to all road users in our province. If you have a desire to improve compliance and increase safety in the province's public passenger transportation and commercial vehicle industry, then we want to hear from you. About Our Opportunity As the Executive Director, Registry of Motor Vehicles, Inspection & Safety you are accountable for the safe and efficient movement of people and goods under the jurisdiction set out in the Nova Scotia Carrier Act, Motor Vehicle Act, Public Utilities Act, Public Highway Act, Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act, and Motor Vehicle Transportation Act (Canada) and all associated regulations made pursuant to these acts and to ensure the development, enforcement, inspection, compliance, stakeholder engagement, education and delivery of a comprehensive safety program. Primary Accountabilities The Executive Director is responsible to ensure the Motor Carrier and Vehicle Compliance Divisions administer a comprehensive license and safety inspection program for passenger vehicles (8 seats or more) and commercial vehicles. Responsibility also includes roadside inspection and enforcement, mobile weight scales, as well as weights and dimensions, and 5 Provincial Compliance Stations. This position also sets and.
