The Department of Natural Resources and Renewables is responsible for the development, management, conservation and protection of forest, mineral, parks and wildlife resources and the administration of the province's Crown land. Together we are working with Nova Scotians to build a better future through sustainable natural resource management as we all benefit from the natural health and wealth of the province. About Our Opportunity As the Geographic Information System (GIS) Programmer/Analyst, you will be the technical lead on the forest information system that is required to support forest research, management, and planning initiatives. Primary Accountabilities You will be responsible for designing, building, and administering tools and databases to collect, maintain, and provide access to forest management and research information within the Department’s Forestry Division in collaboration with other IT and forestry professionals. The design and management of supporting GIS programs and database systems will be part of your responsibilities. You will use your GIS programming skills to develop scripts, tools, and interfaces to automate the collection, processing, and quality control of digital information submitted for forest research and planning initiatives. You will design and complete routine quality control procedures on information entered into forestry databases and ensure that the database meets applicable specifications and standards. Within the Forestry Division, you will work closely with the Forest Management Planning Section, the Forest Inventory Section, and occasionally. Visit ListedBuy for more information.
