Job Description: The Department of Languages and Philosophy at Southern Utah University seeks an Assistant Professor of Philosophy (tenure track) to begin in the 2023-24 academic year. AOS: Modern Philosophy, AOC: Metaphysics and Epistemology. We may consider candidates with an AOS outside of Modern Philosophy, provided that they have strong evidence of teaching effectiveness in Modern Philosophy.The position is a nine-month contract. Responsibilities include a 4/4 teaching load, active research in the candidate's area(s), and service to the university and the profession. SUU has a dynamic philosophy major and minor, with an active philosophy club, an annual undergraduate philosophy conference, and the Utah Lyceum, a week-long non-residential philosophy summer camp for high school students. We would especially encourage applications from candidates who would be passionate about contributing to these ongoing programs.Applicants should provide a cover letter, CV, evidence of teaching ability, a one-page teaching statement, a one-page description of current and future research plans, and three references. Duties and Responsibilities: General Duties: Teaching responsibilities at all levels of undergraduate philosophy courses. Active participation in recruitment and retention of majors and minors. Student advising and mentoring. Collaboration with other philosophy faculty on program development. Participation in program, department, and university service. Scholarly contributions to the discipline. Education and Experience Requirements: The successful candidate will have a PhD in philosophy by August 1, 2023, and will demonstrate a strong commitment to the teaching of undergraduate students.
