The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the oldest national civil engineering society in America, is currently seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer accountable for the management, planning, and direction of the Society's financial affairs including accounting, investments, cash management, budget control, asset management, capital financing, and the handling of short and long-term financial matters. Responsibilities include: Serving as a leader in all society financial matters including interaction and coordination with staff, Board, Program and Finance Committee, other executive bodies, and volunteer committees Providing oversight for and managing all budgets, forecasts, and internal financial plans and processes Advising department heads across the organization, assisting them in maximizing revenues, controlling expenses, and developing better and more efficient business systems and processes Advising executive leadership to ensure revenue and expense goals, maintaining stable cash flow Supporting accounting operations, ensuring that systems are in place to promote timeliness and accuracy in accordance with GAAP and government tax and operational regulations Managing banking and investment management relationships Creating data-based long- and short-term goals, budgets, and forecasts Establishing annual priorities and benchmarks and conducting regular reporting, measuring projections against actual performance and budgets Ensuring that ASCE meets critical regulatory and legal compliance benchmarks Investing reserve and prizes and awards funds working with the Society's outside investment advisors Analyzing current, past, and predicted financial results to support sound business financial decisions, recommending organizational changes, and investment in new products or services Works with leadership and staff leads to manage human capital and labor Overseeing building operations and managing leases Managing CPA firm for annual audit and tax return preparation Maintains an understanding of federal grant/contract regulations and manages accounting for those activities. Providing guidance for association affinity insurance products Ideal candidate will have: BS in accounting, finance, or related discipline, Master's degree and/or CPA a plus 15-20 years' experience with preference for experience in 501(c)(3) professional membership associations Excellent financial, analytical, communication, and presentation skills Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and mentor staff Demonstrated experience in financial statement preparation and responsibility over financial reporting for an organization with an annual budget larger than 45 million The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is a leading nonprofit professional membership association dedicated to the advancement of civil engineering to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public good.
