Estimator 1 HPM Contracting is seeking an Estimator 1 for our Denver office. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented with strong prioritization (multi-tasking), organization and communication skills. The ability to meet deadlines in a short time frame is also a must. It is important for this person to be able to have outstanding organizational skills and be able to achieve results in a stressful environment. Prepares portions of bid and proposal by performing quantity take-off for self-perform work and calculating quantity take- offs for trade scopes; filing bid documentation; and contacting trade contractors and suppliers for price quotes. May lead less complex pursuits. Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements: Understanding of CSI, Masterformat and Uniformat Proficiency in Microsoft Office Bachelor's degree with 2 years of experience in an estimating or field role in the commercial construction industry Operations/field experience is a plus Demonstrable experience in roles of increasing responsibility in commercial construction estimating Familiarity with Building Connected, Destini Estimator, ProEst and/or HCSS Estimating software Strong hard bid estimating skills and understanding of conceptual estimating skillset Ability to independently develop complete estimates Primary Job Functions: Understands proposal requirements and anticipates what the pursuit lead needs for the proposal (e.g., format, level of detail) Takes ownership of an entire (smaller) estimate or a component of a larger estimate and is accountable for that specific work scope Completes full quantity takeoff of all labor, equipment, and materials for small-to- medium scopes Performs quantity, material, and labor takeoff from drawings, specifications, and related documents Reviews quantity survey assignment with lead estimator or chief estimator Applies material unit prices or adds material allowances to the estimate Assists with bid document control (e.g., includes addenda in set of working drawings, includes RFIs, distributes information to estimating team; archives information / recaps and files on local server Documents all information relating to the estimate and archives and organizes such information to transfer to the project team upon successful award. On a fixed-price job, ensures that bid validity, escalation, and extra work terms meet project requirements for small scopes Solicits competitive pricing from trade contractors and suppliers for pursuit support Updates lead estimator on scope (i.e., "will bid"). Supports updating and maintenance of trade contractor database information. Reads all bid documents for small-to-medium jobs pertaining to their discipline. Attends preliminary site visits with more senior staff for mentoring Assists estimate lead to plan and populate the tender forms Completes material quantities for lead estimator Recognizes self-perform vs trade work in scope analysis Recognizes risk related to project-specific requirements, site, schedule, and market conditions/constraints Develops and maintains strong customer focused relationships with all stakeholders Other duties as required Characteristics of the successful candidate: Self-starter who works well under pressure with the ability to meet strict deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously They must be self-motivated, accountable for their work Ability to actively contribute to team dynamics. Accurate, detailed and well-organized Creative solution-orientated approach Excellent verbal and written communication skills Proficient with basic principles of mathematics acumen Understands and uses takeoff systems Minimum Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this position, the employee must have the ability to: Sit, stand and/or walk for extended periods of time. Manipulate (lift, carry, move) weights of at least ten (10) pounds. Use repetitive wrist/hand/finger movement to work on a computer and/or related office equipment.
