EQUIPMENT OPERATOR - OPERATIONS SEWER DIVISION Department: Public Services Division: Operations; Sewer Division Pay: GRADE 8: $39,435.31 - $59,152.97 Annual Salary ($18.96 - $28.44 Hourly) Rate dependent on qualifications. Typically hire at the minimum. FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Full-Time, 40 Hours Weekly, Eligible for Benefits GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR - OPERATIONS; SEWER DIVISION This position assists in performing semi-skilled and unskilled labor in the construction, maintenance, and related service activities related to street, sewer, traffic, and utility maintenance. Receives direct supervision from the Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Crew Leader. EQUIPMENT OPERATOR - OPERATIONS SEWER DIVISION ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Operate construction and maintenance equipment and power tools such as dump trucks, front-end loader, and backhoe, vactor, flush truck, compressors, jack hammers, paint sprayers, sand blasters, concrete saws, sewer rodders, mowers, edgers and blowers or any other equipment needed in sewer maintenance and repairs. Maintain hand tools and assigned equipment; perform preventive maintenance on equipment. Install street barricades and cones prior to the performance of sewer activities. Direct and control traffic around work sites. Be available for recall during any hour for sewer emergencies, snow/ice control work, or other emergency conditions. Utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed. Inspect and clear obstructions from storm drains, sewer lines, gutters, and culverts, assist in repair on sewer mains, manholes; tap sewer mains. Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner and provide information within the area of assignment. Resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner. Perform snow removal and ice control duties as required. Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints. Willing to accept duty as the Division's stand-by person for a one-week period and respond to emergency calls 24-hours a day during this period. Participate in safety and risk management activities; take action to reduce liability to the city. Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position. Employee is required to work as a team and frequently meet with co-workers and supervisors; employee is required to communicate in-person with the public during office hours and after when on call; and employee is required to use on-site equipment. Perform other related duties as required/assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS At least one year of general maintenance experience performing field maintenance work. High school diploma or its equivalent. Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid, Class A Utah CDL driver's license with tanker endorsement within 150 days of hire. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a wastewater 1 certification within one year (if hired in the Sewer Division). Employee will be required to complete NIMS IS100, IS200, IS700 and IS800 within one year of hire. FAILURE TO OBTAIN/MAINTAIN THE LICENSE AND CERTIFICATE AS OUTLINED ABOVE WILL RESULT IN TERMINATION FROM THE POSITION.
