Equipment Operator - Cemetery, Parks Structural Maintenance Division Department: Public Services Division: Parks & Cemetery - Structural Maintenance Pay: GRADE 8 $39,435.31 - $59,152.97 Annual Salary ($18.96 - $28.44 Hourly Rate) Rate dependent on qualifications. Typically hire at the minimum. FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Full-Time, 40 Hours Weekly, Eligible for Benefits GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR- CEMETERY This position assists in performing semi-skilled and skilled labor in the construction, maintenance, and related service activities related to parks, cemeteries, trails, and recreation facility maintenance. Receives direct supervision from the Structural Maintenance Supervisor and/or Parks Maintenance Crew Leader. EQUIPMENT OPERATOR- CEMETERY ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Operate construction and maintenance equipment and power tools such as dump trucks, front-end loader, backhoe, flush truck, compressors, jack hammers, paint sprayers, sand blasters, concrete saws, street sweepers, chainsaws, mowers, edgers, trimmers and blowers. Operate equipment to open and close grave sites in preparation and breakdown of scheduled interments, dis-interments, and cremains placement. Meet with patrons onsite to show property; assist administrative staff with property sales. Maintain hand tools and assigned equipment; perform preventive maintenance on equipment. Experience using cutting torches and welding. Install street barricades and cones prior to the performance of cemetery street repair activities. Assist in special events and support for various events throughout the City. Direct and control traffic around work sites. Utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed. Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner and provide information within the area of assignment. Resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner. Respond to all emergency snow removal and ice control duties as required. Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints. Assist with the repair of irrigation systems. Participate in safety and risk management activities; take action to reduce liability to the city. Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position. Employee is required to work as a team and frequently meet with co-workers and supervisors; employee is required to communicate in-person with the public during office hours; and employees are required to use on-site equipment Perform other related duties as required/assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS At least two years of field maintenance experience in construction, property maintenance, or related field. Experience with the following equipment is preferred but not mandatory: flush truck, compressors, jack hammers, paint sprayers, sandblasters, concrete saws, mowers, edgers and blowers, stump grinders, brush chipper and hi-ranger. High school diploma or its Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid, Class A Utah CDL driver's license with tankers and air brake endorsements within 150 days of hire. Employees will be required to complete NIMS IS100, IS200, IS700, and IS800 within six months of hire. Failure to obtain/maintain license & certificate as outlined above may result in termination from the position.
