Summary The Director of Finance is responsible for all aspects of financial management, including corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecasts preparation, financial analysis and risk management, as well as development of internal control policies and procedures. The role also oversees and manages the work of the Staff Accountant. This position is a multi-faceted hands-on and hands-in leadership role. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following. Accounting Design, implement and maintain all accounting operations including A/R, A/P, Payroll, Revenue Recognition/Fund Accounting, and other general ledger activities, ensuring that these comply with GAAP and any regulatory requirements Develop and maintain month-end and year-end close process to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting Prepare and present timely monthly financial statements and management financial reports Prepare grant or other financial reporting as required by grant agreements Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government registration and reporting requirements and tax filings for the organization's legal entities and any retirement plans Develop, document and maintain internal controls for business processes to ensure the integrity of financial and accounting information, promote accountability, safeguarding of organizational assets, and prevent fraud. Coordinate preparation and execution of annual independent audit, coordinating with external auditors as required; ensure any findings are addressed adequately Oversee the timely and accurate processing of bi-weekly payroll and benefits, in coordination with Human Resources for employee-related elections and deductions. Select, design, implement and maintain ERP and other financial management applications/technology to support an efficient Maintain organizational financial records in accordance with professional and/or regulatory standards. Financial Management Coordinate and direct the preparation of an organizational annual budget Develop financial forecasts to support active management of financial performance Develop and maintain cash management system, including cash flow projections. Prepare ad hoc financial analysis as needed to deepen understanding of factors impacting financial performance Analyze and report variances in financial performance Build program or donor budgets to support fundraising, in collaboration with program and fundraising team Establish and maintain banking services, including corporate payment solutions. Monitor compliance with any debt covenants. Support maintenance of appropriate insurance coverage including but not limited to general liability and D&O Stakeholder Engagement Effectively communicate and present critical financial matters to leadership of the organization Communicate and engage regularly across organization to train employees in financial principles, policies, and practices Support COO/CFO in staffing the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors Work closely and transparently with all external partners including third-party vendors and consultants to manage financial resources, business continuity and compliance Manage and develop the staff accountant utilizing professional development strategies and strong systems of accountability Other duties may be assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Interviews, hires and oversees training of direct report(s)  Oversees the daily workflow of direct report(s) Provides constructive and timely feedback and performance evaluations  Motivates and directs employees, and provides discipline if required Directly supervises 1-2 employees. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required; MBA and/or a CPA is preferred 5-7 years of accounting, financial management and financial planning and analysis experience required Minimum of 2 years of supervisor experience preferred Experience working in a non-profit setting is strongly preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, budget management principles, and control methods, and the systems and processes needed to design, implement and maintain them Strong working knowledge of Sage Intacct, Bill, budgeting/planning, payroll, credit card payments, expense management and related software (or similar platforms) expected Financial modeling skills (e.g., multi-year project plans, scenario planning, etc.) using Excel Skilled in tracking, managing, and allocating expenses to multiple grants and funding sources Ability to translate financial concepts to - and to effectively collaborate with - programmatic and fundraising colleagues who do not have finance backgrounds Ability to strategically analyze and plan for changes in financial conditions, risk profiles and emerging trends The willingness and desire to work independently, as well as collaboratively, and to take on additional responsibilities Knowledgeable about DEI best practices Demonstrates an ability to work closely with and in a culturally diverse team Skill in active learning by understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making Skill in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions Skill in human resources management through motivating, developing, and directing people as they work, identifying the best people for the job Ability to establish goals and objectives Ability to effectively plan and delegate the work of others Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relations with colleagues, coworkers, and other stakeholders Ability to develop and manage a budget while working within the constraints of that budget Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking and writing so others will understand for a wide variety of audiences Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships Skill in negotiation and facilitation Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining quality work and meeting deadlines Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files, and reports and ability to review documents and data for accuracy Work Environment:   The work environment is a typical office environment. The noise level is usually quiet. Up to 10% travel may be required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. IS has implemented a hybrid working model. All staff are required to work from the IS office on Tuesday and Wednesdays.
