Job Title : Fitness Equipment - Maintenance Technician I Department : Club Fitness Reports to : Club Fitness Manager Job Class: Regular Part-Time, non-exempt Work Hours: Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, 8:00 am - 1:00 pm, and Thursday, 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Not to exceed 19 hours per week. Position Summary : Under the direction and supervision of the Club Fitness Manager, the Fitness Equipment Maintenance Technician is responsible for conducting routine and preventive maintenance measures for all Fitness equipment at the facility as well as light building maintenance. Maintenance duties include, but are not limited to, preventative applications, cleaning, oiling, and servicing all fitness equipment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities : Performs routine and preventative maintenance repair on fitness equipment which includes, but is not limited to, cleaning, oiling, and general servicing. In addition, performs routine and preventive maintenance of fixtures, surfaces throughout the facility including restrooms, locker rooms, classrooms, common areas/rooms, gymnasium. Establishes and maintains all data logs including scheduled inspections (daily/weekly/monthly) and maintenance performed. Records and analyzes information for corrective actions. Helps set up new equipment, troubleshoots equipment malfunctions and determines correct actions for repair. Helps set up gym floor layout. Ensures all necessary parts are ordered and in stock by communicating needs with Club Fitness Manager. Maintains communication link with Club Fitness Staff, and Club Fitness Manager for equipment status. Maintains consistent and current knowledge with respect to maintenance of new and current machines through manuals, research, and usage. Meet with the Club Fitness Manager to review fitness equipment problem areas, offer suggestions and discuss fitness equipment maintenance progress. Perform routine maintenance and general custodial duties of PIT area and fitness floor. Additional maintenance responsibilities include performing routine and preventive maintenance of fixtures, surfaces and equipment throughout the facility including restrooms, locker rooms, classrooms, common areas/rooms, gymnasium. Adheres to all departmental and Park District policies and procedures. Chemical testing of pool and jacuzzi and run necessary equipment for chemical balancing. Performs snow removal from walks and drives as necessary during work shift. Assists with exterior garbage removal around Club Fitness facility. Attends all required safety program and in-service training meetings. Interprets and adheres to all policies and procedures outlined in the Policy and Procedure Manual, Personnel Policy Manual, and Safety Manual. Completes other duties as assigned. Secondary Duties & Responsibilities Attends and contributes to required staff meetings. Assist other staff, as needed. Required Qualifications : High school diploma or equivalent with two years of demonstrated experience in general maintenance. Valid State of Illinois Driver's License. Must be 18 years old. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with fitness equipment repair and servicing. Competencies: Must be able to perform duties in the presence of the general population and or patrons in public areas. Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with supervisors and co-workers, and patrons. Ability to utilize effective time management skills and be able to work under the stress of multiple deadlines, requests from others, and interruptions, with accuracy. Proficiency to read and write in English and organize effectively. Capacity to maintain self-control and composure in difficult situations. Working Conditions/Physical Requirements : Work area is indoors, in a smoke-free environment with controlled temperature and fluorescent lighting. Exposure to noise distractions from employees, patrons, or equipment operation. Bending, stooping, and lifting as part of general maintenance duties. Workers are allowed and encouraged to use mechanical or manual assists for lifting above 50 lbs. as a guideline. Working in teams also provides assistance with heavier activities.
