MDW Associates is currently seeking an Accountant to support our Missile Defense Agency (MDA) customer in Huntsville, AL. Essential job functions will include but may not be limited to: Explaining and interpreting Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Delivering general accounting, financial statement, and reporting support Researching various financial statements and disclosures to determine compliance with GAAP Working independently and with accounting, audit, and other multi-discipline teams on a variety of complex accounting and financial issues Reconciling accounts with shared service provider Having knowledge/experience with federal Government financial audit processes and procedures Providing analysis, processing, and technical assistance in devising new or revising accounting policies/procedures, categorizing accounting transactions, and improving accounting operations Providing a variety of tasks related to financial management, accounting operations, and procedures/process with the Agency's shared service providers Supporting internal and external audit preparation, execution, and implementation of recommendations Required Skills/Experience: 3+ years' experience with general financial accounting and cost accounting Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles Experience with financial aspects of accounting and applying theories, concepts, principles, and standards Analysis and interpretation of records and reports Financial management Highly proficient with accounting software Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Excellent written and verbal communication skills Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software Desired Skills/Experience: Active credentials as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM), or Certified Defense Financial Manager (CDFM) are desirable Prior MDA experience preferred Education Requirement/Required Years of Experience: B.A./B.S. degree from an accredited institution in Accounting or related field and a minimum of 3 years' experience is required. An additional 4+ years may be substituted in lieu of degree. Clearance Requirement(s): Candidates for this position must be eligible to obtain/maintain a U.S. DoD Secret level security clearance; Candidates with a current Secret clearance preferred.
