Head Start Pre-Birth to Five Home Visitor Watertown, SD Duties and Responsibilities Educational Duties Work with parents/guardians on a scheduled one-to-one weekly basis in their homes for ninety minutes on prenatal and infant (0-3) parent education and skill development. Work with parents/guardians to develop weekly home visit and weekly activity plans based on each child's assessment and identified family needs and goals. Encourage parents to become involved in the child's development in all domains. Plan in assigned area (in cooperation with the parent/guardian), and submit weekly Family Activity Report to Education Specialist for review. Plan, prepare, and develop various teaching aids for a cognitive experience by using hands on experiences such as games and activities. Promote sound physical, social and emotional growth and development through recognizing individual differences and cultural patterns. Assist parents/guardians in developing ways for utilizing household resources in educational activities for their children. Collect resources for parents/guardians upon request such as books, videos, brochures, various materials, etc. Provide feedback to parents/guardians in regard to on-going assessments of the Head Start Pre-Birth to Five child and of the home visits. Assist parents/guardians in developing and fostering positive self-concepts for themselves, and helping them become the primary family educator(s). Foster the belief in parents/guardians that they are their child's first teacher and reinforcing this concept with practical suggestions for its development. Provide guidance and leadership in the planning of and participation in parent meetings scheduled at least once a month. Facilitate all phases of in-kind collection, including educating parents/guardians of the importance of the in-kind, assisting in tracking in-kind contributions, and assuring that in-kind reports are submitted timely and that adequate in-kind contributions are provided. Cooperates with Birth to Three agency and/or LEA in providing services for children on an IFSP / IEP as needed. Gather data on children's progress of learning and development on each child in conjunction with the parents. Accurately use the data to track progress to generate child outcome reports. Health Assessment Duties Perform informal child assessments on the child to include, but not limited to, developmental and social emotional screenings and vision and hearing. Assist family when necessary in the arrangement of and transportation to medical and dental appointments as required by Head Start Pre-Birth to Five, including designated follow-ups. Plan nutrition, health, and mental health lessons monthly. Maintain accurate documentation and files on all health assessments and maintain confidentiality of these files. Assess the safety of the home environment. Collaborate with community agencies to ensure that health and developmental assessments are completed. Observe children to detect signs of ill health or emotional disturbance. Social Service Duties Act as a team manager, making family referrals and following-up on those referrals. Assist family when necessary in the arrangement of and transportation to community service offices including designated follow-ups. Assist families in utilizing fully all-available community resources. Act as a liaison and advocate between community resources and Head Start Pre-Birth to Five families. Encourage parents/guardians to attend parent meetings and group socialization's, transporting them when necessary. Participate in staffing with integration professionals and community agency members involved with individual families to assess family goals and outcomes. Other Duties Maintain and periodically update family and child assessments with each family throughout the program year. Assist in recruitment by assisting with application forms and parent contacts. Participate in the Career Development Committee. Responsible for mentoring college students. Participate in federal reviews, planning, meetings, and yearly program reviews. Submit weekly time sheets to the immediate supervisor. Submit all records/reports in a timely manner. Obtain volunteer time weekly. Encourage and promote the families' achievement of self-sufficiency. Maintain client confidentiality at all times. Attend meetings, training, and seminars as deemed appropriate and necessary by ICAP. Perform duties in a manner consistent with safe practices and policies. Perform other duties as deemed appropriate and necessary. Minimum Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and Experience Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in Social Work, Sociology, Early Childhood Education, Human Development or a related field preferred. One (1) year experience working with children and families, preferably with prenatal, postpartum, infants and toddlers; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Child Development Associate Certificate (Home Visitor CDA preferred). Experience with low-income families would be beneficial. Experience working with pregnant teens and families with infants and toddlers. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of clients or employees of organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Other Work Related Abilities Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to be punctual and organized. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Certificates, Licenses, Examinations Valid South Dakota Drivers License. Child Development Associate Certificate (Home Visitor CDA preferred). Other such examination as deemed appropriate and necessary by the ICAP. Ability to be bonded.
