Job Classification: Exempt, Full-time Reporting Relationship: Finance Manager Who We Are: FreeState is the largest rural electric cooperative in Eastern Kansas, with more than 15,000 member-owners. It functions as a democratic, not-for-profit organization. We are controlled by our members who actively participate in setting cooperative policy and making decisions in the best interest of the cooperative. This position's salary range starts at $60,643. Starting wage is based on knowledge, education and experience. Primary Accountability: The Financial Analyst is responsible for gathering data, organizing information, analyzing historical results, making recommendations, managing bank reconciliations and daily cash, and generating Excel models, presentations and reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, the Internal Revenue Service, other regulatory and advisory organizations, and in accordance with financial management techniques and practices appropriate within the industry. Essential Duties: Prepares monthly budget variance reports to department managers, including variance explanations and analysis reporting. Prepares and analyzes monthly and year-end comparative financial reports; prepares and provides analysis of current results to prior period and/or budgets. Performs cost-benefit and payback analysis with Cooperative management to help make informed business decisions. Records ACH payments onto the bank website and FreeState's accounting software. Records and maintains daily cash activity and reports excess or shortfall of cash flows. Reconciles monthly bank statements. Reconciles certain general ledger accounts on a monthly basis which includes member insufficient checks, deposits, and accounts receivable. Maintains the bank reconciliation module in FreeState's accounting software. Updates the monthly PCA for billing purposes. Assists with the annual audit as needed. Performs additional duties as assigned by Management. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or economics from an accredited university is required. 1-2 years of work-related experience is preferred. Must possess a valid driver's license. Experience with NISC software is preferred. Prior banking knowledge is preferred. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, including cost accounting, budgeting and auditing is preferred. Knowledge of RUS Uniform System of Accounts is preferred. Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data. Knowledge in computerized information systems used in financial and/or accounting applications. Physical Demands: Consistently sits for extended periods of time. Occasionally stands, walks, bends, stoops, squats lifts, unpacks and moves up to thirty (30) pounds. Ability to perform finger and hand manipulation and perform repetitive motions in order to use a computer keyboard and telephone, as well as other office equipment. Ability to read computer screens, mail and talk on the phone. Work Environment: Professional and deadline-oriented environment in an office setting. Regular, reliable attendance is required . Interaction with staff, vendors and members. Must be able to report to their primary worksite after regular business hours, as soon as possible, in the event of an emergency situation such as electrical outages, inclement weather, etc. Ability to travel between offices and attend meetings, trainings, workshops, and seminars, as directed.
