Position Overview: The Patient Access Representative Level I primarily obtain non-complex ancillary department precertification's and authorizations. The Patient Access Representative Level I is a non-clinical staff member that passes through clinical notes and orders to ensure authorizations and precertification's are obtained for payment on services rendered at Montrose Memorial Hospital. Essential Functions : Promotes the philosophy and mission of Montrose Regional Health. Complete pre-authorization for radiology and cardiology (ancillary) procedures by retrieving patient orders and medical notes utilizing various electronic medical record (EMR) programs. Maintain an elevated level of understanding of insurance companies and billing authorization requirements. Retrieve patient orders and medical notes for upcoming procedures, utilizing various electronic medical record (EMR) programs. Verify patients' insurance policy(s) and benefits including, co-pays, deductible and out of pocket amounts. Utilize estimation software to present a patient with patient liability information, including co-pay and deductible. Complete a financial discussion with the patient and collect any co-pay/co-insurance amounts, or schedule notification of patient financial responsibility (if applicable) and referral to financial counseling/Patient Financial Services. Act as a liaison between financial departments, clinical departments and local physicians. Follow policy and procedure for entering communication to, from, or with patients in to account. Print and u nderstand the daily schedules and authorization requirements for all procedures. Complete estimates for Colorado Indigent Care Program (CICP), Montrose Indigent Sliding Scale (MISS) and Olathe Sliding Fee scale patients. Maintain a minimum of three days ahead on requesting precertification's and authorizations on scheduled services and complete Medical Necessity for all Medicare programs. Assist in reference lab registrations following policy and procedure. Learn authorization process to obtain authorizations on more complex procedures. Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned. Education and Work Experience Education: High school graduate or equivalent. Training & Experience: Previous registrations experience/Medical Terminology/ Customer service preferred. Skills: Proficient typing-keyboarding skills required / computer literate / spelling proficiency / legible handwriting / must be able to speak and read the English language at an acceptable level / good communication skills / works well with public / medical terminology / interpersonal skills / problem solving / prioritizing skills / detail oriented/ math skills. Ability to effectively communicate, verbally, and non-verbally, in a clear, concise manner. Administrative and philosophical compatibility with Montrose Regional Health. Interpersonal skills and sound judgment necessary to communicate with a wide variety of persons including patients. The ability to make appropriate decisions based on fact and knowledge is required. The ability to perform detailed work required. The ability to work harmoniously with employees required. Must demonstrate the ability to maintain confidentiality and show good judgment. The ability to make decisions under pressure and deadlines required. Physical Demands and Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands along with fingers, to handle or feel.
