The Director of Finance is accountable for providing strategic financial leadership while ensuring solid fiscal stewardship of organizational resources, and supporting the United Way of Greater Charlotte's mission to end poverty and improve economic mobility. As the leader of the finance team, this individual will work closely and collaboratively with United Way's leadership team and Children and Family Services' Shared Services team to oversee the financial functions of the organization. An ideal candidate would be a highly organized strategic thinker and skilled people and process manager committed to ensuring a high level of leadership, accountability and fiscal effectiveness. A candidate must also have strong relationship skills to work effectively with staff and volunteers, as well as the ability to translate financial information to individuals who don't have financial or accounting backgrounds. United Way partners with Children and Family Services Center's Shared Services, LLC to manage its financial operations including, but not limited to, accounts payable, fixed assets, general ledger, treasury, budget reporting, audit coordination, tax reporting, and record retention. In essence, Shared Services acts as the finance department with the CFO of Shared Services acting as CFO of UW. The UW Director of Finance will serve as the primary liaison with the Shared Services finance team. All functions described below are to be accomplished in partnership with CFSC Shared Services, LLC. Accountability and Responsibilities Lead the finance team to increase seamless efficiencies and effectiveness allowing and encouraging each individual to reach full potential; Represent department on director-level and strategic cross-functional teams Advise the CEO and other key leadership team members on financial planning, budgeting, cash flow, investment priorities, and policy matters Plan, coordinate, and execute the annual budget process in partnership with CFSC Shared Services Oversee administrative and operational accounting functions such as cash management, financial statements, 401k plan, payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable In partnership with CFSC, manage and implement an appropriate system of policies, internal controls, accounting standards, and procedures Serve as internal point of contact for United Way staff and CFSC Shared Services staff to address day-to-day financial matters and provide year-round support Serve as the management liaison to the Finance & Audit and Investment committees; effectively communicate and present critical financial matters and reports at committee meetings and board of directors meetings Serve as internal point of contact for external auditors, in collaborations with CFSC, including an annual single audit for federal grants Perform research, benchmarking, and data analysis and make recommendations for the enhancement and improvement of existing or new systems and/or processes to improve/ streamline operations Oversee all aspects of reviewing insurance policies, coverage, records, billings, claims and serving as the primary liaison to the insurance broker(s) Liaise with Resource Development, Donor Relations and Community Impact to ensure effective coordination and communication on operations-related matters Learn and grow professionally by learning through various avenues, but not limited to: online courses, in-person classes, seminars, conferences, books, etc. Equity & Inclusion Constantly learning & actively participating in programs, trainings, and discussions regarding racial inequities, exclusions, oppressions Appreciation of and willingness to work with and advocate for people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds Consistently seeks to learn and understand the specific experiences of historically marginalized racial groups in the U.S., particularly Black, Indigenous, and Latinx groups Education/Experience Requirements Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or equivalent experience Minimum of 5 years in finance or accounting-related roles Nonprofit experience preferred but not required The COVID-19 vaccination is required as a condition of employment Workplace values Take action and go!
