POSITION SUMMARY: The Nurse Anesthetist orders or administers pre-operative medication and administers the selected anesthetics to surgical and obstetrical patients in accordance with established policies and procedures. The CRNA observes the conditions of anesthetized patients and takes necessary remedial measures to counteract unfavorable conditions. The CRNA notes and relieves post-operative anesthesia effects on patients. When available, the CRNA responds to Code Blue situation and provides obstetrical anesthesia care when requested by the physician. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DETAILED DUTIES: Has a thorough knowledge of general and regional anesthesia, including spinal, epidural, IV Bier Block, and local with MAC (monitored anesthesia care). Is able to perform induction, maintenance, and appropriate monitoring of anesthesia at the required surgical levels. Review the cases scheduled for the day. Makes pre-anesthesia visits. Explains the anesthetic procedure to each patient to secure cooperation and gain the patient's confidence and maintains an anesthesia record for each anesthetic administered. Assembles and prepares drugs, supplies and equipment needed for each procedure and performs safety checks on all anesthesia equipment needed. Assists in positioning the patient on the operating table according to established procedure for type of operation to be performed. Has clinical/administrative oversight of the PACU. Is available to assist PACU personnel as needed. Notifies physician when unfavorable symptoms develop. Makes professional consultation and resuscitative care for the emergency cardiac arrest patient or high-risk neonate. Administrative/Management: Responsible for material and supply management, supervision of students or ancillary personnel, development of policies and procedures, fiscal management, performance evaluations, preventative maintenance, and data management. Quality Assessment: Data collection, reporting mechanism, trending, compliance, committee meetings, departmental review, problem-focused studies, problem solving, interventions, documentation and process oversight. Interdepartmental Liaison: Interface with other departments such as surgery, labor and delivery, PACU, outpatient surgery, admissions, administration, laboratory, pharmacy, etc. Educational: Clinical and didactic teaching, BCLS/ACLS instruction, in-service commitment, EMT training, supervision of residents and continuing education. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Registered Nurse license and Advance Registered Nurse Practitioner license in the State of Iowa. Must meet certification renewal requirements of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists and licensure in thd State of Iowa. Completion of a program accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. BLS (CPR) certified or obtained within 3 months of employment, and ACLS and PALS.. Job Posted by ApplicantPro
