Have you always wanted to be involved in the hands on care of animals? Are you great with people? Well then the Connecticut Humane Society's shelter, located in Newington, is seeking full-time, benefit eligible Foster Program Coordinator to do both of those things! This position is responsible for daily supervision and operation of the foster program, primarily at the Newington location, but may be asked to support the other shelter locations. This position will be coordinating and assuring execution of foster standard operating procedures, arranging transfer of animals to and from foster homes and for coordinating all aspects of the movement of animals into and out of foster homes from the shelter. This includes gathering necessary information to make good foster home/animal matches, arranging foster pick-up appointments, gathering & distributing foster supplies, reviewing relevant information with the foster home at time of pick-up, processing the foster placement in computer database, maintaining regular communication (both proactively and responsively) with foster home during foster period, scheduling follow-up appointments, handling follow-up appointment intake and subsequent return to foster home. Will work closely with our medical and behavior departments to monitor the health and welfare of the animals off site. Position Overview Title: Foster Program Coordinator Overview: This full time position is benefit eligible. This position is ideal for who is able to deal with different communication styles. We are looking for a creative, customer service oriented individual who can work well within a team. Interested individuals must be able to handle multiple priorities and enjoy a busy environment. This position requires one to have a knowledge of animal handling and care as well as have a basic understanding of the different types of companion animals. Skills: Ability to perform physically strenuous activities which will require lifting of moderate to heavy weights (up to 40 lbs.),standing and/or bending, pushing brooms and/or mops, and walking and/or controlling dogs and/or cats, use of cleaning solutions and sitting at a desk for long periods of time. At least two years' experience working in a customer services position or a shelter environment ~ Weekend work required.
