Position Description Summary APT Research is hiring an energetic Explosives Safety Officer to work on-site providing occupational safety, environmental compliance, and explosives safety oversight in Huntsville, AL. The tasks include, Working as a team member responsible for the compliance to the U.S. Army Redstone Test Center safety program within the E3 Test Division. Educate and provide corrective actions for deficiencies identified during inspections and assessments. Develop, implement, and maintain documents, policies, and procedures such as Standing Operating Procedures (SOP) and Work Procedures (WP), including Test Safety Risk Assessments (TSRA) for safety programs; standardize reports, programs, and processes at the facility and division level. Chair division safety meetings, write meeting minutes, and ensure action items are completed following meetings. Responsible for HAWG meeting coordination, TSRA coordination, safety training, training documentation distribution, SOP review and tracking, and ensuring all safety related documents are present during testing and up to date. Conduct regular facility inspections, accident investigations, and maintain and face to face daily presence around the E3 Campus to help ensure the implementation of safe practices and SOP compliance. Assist Test Engineers with technical expertise in ordnance initiation chains, fuse functioning, post-test safe handling process determinations, etc. Assist Test Engineers with planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and monitoring the effectiveness of the explosive's safety program for all activities within ECE. Required Experience/Education : A High School Diploma or GED with 8+ years of experience in explosives safety. Knowledge in explosives effects mitigation, safe separation distances, and risk management related to operations involving explosive operations. Provide Explosive Safety management support to RTC Directorates associated with all facets of RTC Explosive Safety Program. Provides technical expertise in explosives, missiles, ammunition, and weapon testing safety requirements with responsibility for planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and monitoring the effectiveness of the explosive's safety program for all activities within RTC and private contractors who perform explosives, missiles, ammunition, and weapons testing functions within RTC. Experience in the implementation of mitigations and controls for explosive operations. Familiar with DOD 6055.09-M and DA-Pam 386-64. Understanding of fuze functioning and arming. Understand occupational health and safety principles and practices. Knowledge of OSHA General Industry standard 1910 and the general duty clause. Must have NFPA 70E experience. Able to create and lead monthly safety meetings to the division. Basic skills in Microsoft Office suite. Security Clearance Requirement: Must have a Secret level clearance. Preferred Experience: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work in small groups with other contractors, government engineers, and other support personnel. Familiarity with Army safety and environmental publications and regulations and have experience in drafting policies and procedures from DoD, federal, state, and local government safety and environmental regulations for application at the organization level.
