SUMMARY: Assist with the development and delivery of clinical related services to people receivingDay Services under the direct supervision of the Associate Director of Clinical Support Services and the Speech and Language Pathologist. Functions as a liaison between the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP), clinical team and the workforce. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Assists the SLP with the scheduling and preparation of eating and swallowing evaluations. Receives the completed assessments and recommendations from the SLP, OT and develops the Eating and Swallowing Guidelines and assures distribution of the guidelines to the required staff. Provides staff with the required training to assure the Eating and Swallowing guidelines are implemented per the SLP and clinical team. Provides the agency wide Eating and Swallowing training to the required staff per NYS OPW/DD regulations/guidelines. Assists in providing functional language services under the supervision of the SLP and clinical team. Serves as positive role model for people we support. Interacts with others in a way which will assist consumers in developing behaviors, skills, and attitudes necessary for successful community living. Maintains neat appearance, hygiene, and grooming. Promotes positive behaviors and interactions with all the people receiving services and supports Participates in required all staff meetings, team meetings and trainings per agency and OPW regulations. Completes all additional duties as assigned. RELATIONSHIPS: Provides Supervision: To Direct Support Professionals of the Interdisciplinary Team and when appropriate, students and volunteers.Receives Supervision: Direct and continuing from the Associate Director of Clinical Support Services and the Licensed Speech Pathologist.Consultation: Provides consultation to agency staff. Consults with other community serviceproviders regarding the service plan. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: a BS Degree in Speech or licensure in a related field, as well as one year experience in working with people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. May be required to meet LAI's Vehicle Operator Requirements. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Ability to effectively communicate with and promptly respond to consumers and staff. Ability to read and interpret documents such as individual service plans, clinical notes, communication logs, safety rules, general instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine notes, correspondence, and reports. Ability to communicate effectively with groups of consumers, their family members, other service providers and agency staff. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of options in situations where only limited instructions exist. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.While performing the duties of this job, to instruct, care for, and assist consumers, the employee is frequently required to: stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects or equipment; and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to observe and immediately react to consumers and staff. The employee is also occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift, transfer, and/or move up to 35 pounds.Required to meet OMRDD Level II S.C.I.P.-R. (Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention - Revised) requirements.
