Position Overview: The Cytotechnologist is responsible for processing staining and studying cells microscopically from the human body to detect evidence of cancer and other pathological conditions. Receives body materials and fluids such as blood, urine, exudates, and scrapings and performs all necessary procedures for preparation of specimen. Essential Functions : a) Prepares specimen for microscopic analysis. b) Evaluates GYN and non-GYN specimens for cytologic abnormalities. c) Examines cells to detect evidence of cancer or other diseased conditions. d) Assists in intraoperative adequacies (bronchoscopy, FNA, etc). Physical Demands and Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands along with fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Qualifications & Skills: a) Education: Must have graduated from a school of cytotechnology accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation; or be licensed by a certifying agency approved by HHS. CT (ASCP) certification, IAC or equivalent required. b) Training & Experience: Should be experienced with non-GYN cytology and fine needle aspiration techniques. c) Job Knowledge: Prefer current Thin Prep certification, and processing acumen.
