The Payroll Specialist is a critical role on the HR team. The Payroll Specialist will possess knowledge on full-cycle in-house payroll, iSolved system knowledge, and report writing. The individual will be responsible for processing accurate multi-state payrolls (two EINs with exempt and non-exempt payroll) and associated federal, state, and local tax filings on a semi-monthly basis. The Payroll Specialist will work to resolve pay questions and issues proactively and with a sense of urgency to ensure the company is compliant with applicable federal, state, and local pay laws. Further responsibilities include providing for accurate and timely responses to the explanation of the timekeeping system, pay stubs, pay calculations, compliance to company policies and interpretation, and positively focus on problem resolution. This individual will have analytical abilities and contribute to report writing for payroll as it relates to earnings, and deductions and timekeeping. This role will embrace and lead the HRIS system to fully implement best practices, efficient processes, and data support. This role will be responsible for reporting, writing and data analysis.The ideal locations are: Atlanta, GA, Chattanooga TN or Raleigh, NC Essential Job Functions: Possess a full understanding of foundational tactical payroll compliance tasks, including FLSA, state, local labor, and employment practices of a multi-state company. Understanding of full-cycle in-house payroll processing - pre through post close activities. Ensure self-education and research to stay abreast of federal, state, and local changes to laws as they occur via payroll association website, third party vendor continuous training university, and other payroll and HR resources. Understand the tax implications of all benefit plans for education to employees. Ensure compliance for payment of all compensation due to employee (missed hours, bonuses) within required state and local guidelines. Work in unison with HR team members on LOA, FMLA, and State Leaves to ensure compliance and accurate processing per laws and policies. Work closely with Payroll Manger on the processing and execution of W2 processing and corrections. Respond to report requests for various payroll, finance, HR, and general business needs as required. Manage 401(k) contribution uploads - work with employees on contributions and loan payoffs. HRIS Technology continuous knowledge improvement for broad base impact beyond payroll processing. Report writing for payroll processing, HR and organizational needs. Ability to build dashboards and continue to enhance the human capital management system for enhanced employee and manager use in their daily work. Competencies: Driven to deliver. Ability to train employees and managers with patience and professionalism. Ability to multitask in a stressful environment with specific deadlines. Excellent attention to detail Sound decision-making skills Willingness to learn new items and cross train when necessary. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to communicate with employees regarding their issues and concerns. Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree preferred. Multi-state payroll experience required. iSolved experience required with implementation experience a plus. Minimum of 3 years of report writing experience The understanding of state specific employment pay laws. Certification designation of Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) a plus. Big picture thinker of how payroll processing affects other areas of benefits, earnings, deductions, taxes, and overall system functionality.
