We are a leading tax law firm in San Francisco looking for an experienced tax professional with expertise in tax preparation, tax quality review, and tax training. The qualified candidate will be a competent tax professional with the demonstrated ability to perform quality reviews for individual, corporate, partnership, and international tax returns. GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB Under minimal supervision, the incumbent is a key member of the tax preparation and services team and has primary responsible for performing individual and business/corporate tax return quality reviews, providing tax preparers feedback and guidance, and development and delivery of training to the tax services team. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Perform comprehensive quality review of assigned tax returns in a timely and efficient manner. Document quality review of tax returns on appropriate review forms and as appropriate in the customer relationship management (CRM) and tax systems. Meet with tax preparers to provide feedback on quality review findings to include providing feedback, guidance, and training to ensure future quality improvement in preparation. Provide the tax services department periodic and ongoing training or tax updates, aspects of individual and business / corporate / partnership returns and international tax practices. Provide department new hire training on the standard operating procedures, tax software, and tax preparation. Conduct or participate in client meetings both on the telephone and via zoom video conference. Customer service tasks to include answering client questions. Collaborate with key stakeholders in the firm to provide subject matter expertise in the development of client solutions. Prepare regular quality review status updates to tax services manager. Performs various tasks and projects based on firm needs. ADDITIONAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS Carries out duties in compliance with all federal and state regulations and guidelines. Complies with all company and site policies and procedures including but not limited to safety, standard operating procedures, and work instructions. Makes a positive contribution to the department and team as demonstrated by: Making suggestions for improvement. Learning new skills, procedures and processes. Considers and promotes work methods that is focused on continuous improvement. Is available for other duties as required. Is available for overtime as needed. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES None QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or tax required plus five (5) year of hands-on experience as a tax professional; or a Highschool Diploma or GED required plus seven (7) years of hands-on as a tax professional. Must have two (2) years of direct experience performance quality reviews of tax preparation for individual, corporate, international, and partnership returns. Must have two (2) years of experience with international tax preparation. Must have three (3) seasons of paid Tax Preparation experience including individual, corporate, and partnership returns, with a minimum of 30 tax returns per tax year. Prior tax preparation experience in a tax practice or retail setting required. Must have one (1) year of experience as a tax trainer. Must have PTIN number and must provide proof of 2023 renewal as a condition of employment. LANGUAGE SKILLS Read, write, review, and interpret documents such as standard operating procedures, manuals, work instructions, tax forms, tax notices, financial reports, and other financial documents and records. Communicate clearly in writing and orally. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Apply concepts of basic arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical solutions. TAX SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS Customer and Personal Service - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Social Perceptiveness - Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do. OTHER SKILLS, ABILITIES OR QUALIFICATIONS Demonstrated experience performing quality tax reviews. Demonstrated experience training tax preparers on all aspects and types of tax returns. Demonstrated experience with tax preparation practices and principles including relevant tax law and regulation changes that impact tax preparation activities. Knowledge of tax laws, tax concepts and familiarity with various individual, business and corporate entity forms and schedules. Demonstrate effective application of organizational skills, detail oriented, and meticulous workplace behaviors. Demonstrate Integrity, this job being honest and ethical in all activities always. Demonstrate effective collaboration and teamwork. Demonstrated experience entering data with quality and accuracy. Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced environment with high volume task assignment. Familiar with a variety of CRM and Tax systems. Successfully completes regulatory and job training requirements. Computer skills: Proficient with tax software technology and solid knowledge of computer operations and software. Enter data into firm CRM software (Canopy) and systems. Work and be proficient with Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining speed of work and attention to detail without loss to production. Ability to work with others in a team environment. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to touch, handle or feel, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, balance, and kneel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
