Commodity Specialist Reports To: Commodity Manager Work Location: Livonia With over 100,000 SKUs, General Fasteners Company (GFC) is a full-service distributor for a wide range of Fastener and Assembly Components in over 40 product categories. We excel at providing great products, superior client service, customized Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) programs, product testing, and engineering solutions for our valued clients. More than half of the items we supply are specifically engineered for our clients' unique applications, and many are non-fastener items such as stampings, molded plastics and composites, mechanical assemblies, kits of various configurations, fittings, private labeled products, and many more. We work with over 800 suppliers from around the globe to offer clients a one-stop shop for all their Assembly component needs. We are currently seeking a motivated professional to join our Purchasing Team as a Commodity Specialist at our Livonia, MI location. Commodity Specialists are responsible creating and maintaining relationships with new and existing strategic suppliers. This position plays a pivotal role in the company to ensure the stability of our supply chain and competitiveness. Coordination with colleagues & utilization of resources from the Engineering, Quality, Accounting, Operations and Sales teams to fulfill client needs is critical to the success of Commodity Management. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Managing the company's supply chain by sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing commodities Maintain/Implement pricing strategy to establish the best price market wide Evaluate market conditions to mitigate risks Understand product offerings provided by suppliers Maintain/Implement inventory strategies to decrease cost, increase inventory turns, and increase profitability Maintain/Implement supplier rebate programs Negotiate competitive payment terms / Assist Accounting with invoice concerns Build and maintain good relationships with both new and existing suppliers Conduct quarterly business reviews with strategic suppliers to review performance and establish continuous improvement strategies Assist on identifying suppliers for gap purchases Assist Quality with customer / supplier concerns THE MOST QUALIFIED CANDIDATES POSSESS THE FOLLOWING: Experience with Microsoft Office applications: Outlook, Excel, Word, Access Experience using Epicor Prophet 21 and IQS (Enterprise Quality Management) Software Purchasing experience with both domestic and international suppliers Experience in the Fastener Industry Resolve problems where precedent may not exist Driven, have sense of urgency, take ownership KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES REQUIRED TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THE POSITION: Ambitious, competitive, and results-driven outlook to successfully achieve objectives and exceed goals Excellent communication skills including verbal, written, listening, and interpersonal are required to identify opportunities and convey our value proposition in a clear & concise manner Strong negotiating skills with a keen focus on closing the best possible deal that achieves short term and long-term goals Creative problem solving and solutions-oriented Ability to compile & analyze data Proficient use of a PC and Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint & Word REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred: Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience Ability to cooperate with people of different levels inside/ outside the company and to interact with team to reach team goals and business objectives Ability to gather information, analyze data, prepare, and lead negotiations as well as suggest recommendations SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This position has no direct supervisory responsibility TRAVEL: Potential travel to visit suppliers WHY JOIN GENERAL FASTENERS?
