Position Overview: To develop cost estimates for projects and services related to the industrial painting and coating industry for commercial construction projects. Develop, produce, and maintain production units according to industry standard as directed Management Responsibilities: May supervise and advise interns Duties and Responsibilities : Assist Division Manager or Senior Estimator with all project proposals as requested Analyze and evaluate project plans, specifications, scope, difficulty, and any other requirements necessary to prepare a job cost estimate and assemble bid packages Prepare conceptual estimates and/or budgets Prepare accurate quantity take-offs and unit pricing using established company production rates When quantity survey is complete; establish profit & overhead for project if requested Use the Request for Information (RFI) process when information is lacking (document appropriately) Inform Division Manager of any observed inaccuracies or omissions in plans and specifications Maintain in the job file, all correspondence records and notes for the project being bid (log all bid documents) Review and analyze all quotes to assure they meet the standards and specifications for the project Communicate with General Contractor's, owners, vendors, and trades Secure vendor pricing and select vendors and subcontractors by their cost effectiveness for each project Coordinate with vendors and subcontractors to completely cover scope in the most cost effective way Immediately respond to any vendor or subcontractor questions; resolve issues immediately and completely Get written documentation on vendor and subcontractor quotes Be proficient in project principals, policies, and procedures and apply them during course of work Participate in (and may lead) weekly planning meetings with estimating staff Assist PMs with Buy-Outs on projects Assist Project Manager with purchasing and any change orders on projects estimated as requested Ensure Quality Assurance/Quality Checks are in place at all times Job close out and review Attend pre-job meetings Attend all estimating meetings Attend project job walks as assigned Be available on all bid days to assist in the collection and review of incoming quotes Provide value engineering as requested While it is impossible to list every duty that may be asked of an employee, the Employer may ask that an employee do other duties as the business need arises. Key Requirements, Education, Experience : 3-5 years formal experience estimating commercial construction projects Professional education and/or experience in the construction and/or relevant industries Thorough understanding of estimating and/or construction management Significant level of overall experience in the design/construction field, specifically industrial and commercial construction Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail Excellent math and organizational skills Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills Proficient with Microsoft operating systems and software (i.e. Excel, Word, Outlook, etc) with an ability to accurately learn new software quickly Minimum of 5 years experience in construction and estimating Degree or certification in related field Strong working knowledge of Viewpoint Valid Drivers license, insurance, and reliable transportation. Bidding - Gross Sales & Gross Margin Accurate & Timely Bid Tasks Take Offs Leads - Projects secured Communication; Documentation; Organization Securing Vendor Pricing To develop cost estimates for projects and services related to the waterproofing, coating, and concrete restoration industry for commercial construction projects.
