BUS DRIVER/SCHOOLWIDE AIDE Competitive Pay DOE Non-Exempt/Hourly Full Time PURPOSE: The Bus Driver/Schoolwide Aide will provide transportation services and will develop strong and nurturing relationships with children. When not driving, assists classroom teams to provide a developmentally appropriate learning environment with meaningful experiences. The Bus Driver/Schoolwide Aide will ensure that all services are available and provided for all children each school day, including maintenance of classroom facilities. The Bus Driver/Schoolwide Aide is responsible for meeting Kids Unlimited policies and procedures. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: TRANSPORTATION SERVICES Provide transportation services to children as required to and from before school/school/afterschool in accordance with "Transportation Policy and Procedure "manual. Plan fixed routes and filed trips to transport children; Transport children following defined time schedule; Maintain current and accurate route sheets on the bus and with the Facilities Manager; Maintain professional and effective bus-to-school communications; Promptly report traffic delays that affect pickup/arrival of children; Report any accident involving the bus immediately. Responsible for the safety of school children in loading, unloading, and transporting them to and from school or field trips. Responsible to ensure that all children riding the bus are fully accounted for and no child is left alone on the bus; Instruct children (and parents when necessary) in safety precautions and practices; Ensure that children are in appropriate safety restraints as required when bus is moving; Ensure children are aware of rules and responsibilities when riding the bus. Operate the school bus in a safe and effective way. Perform daily safety and maintenance checks including required Pre-Post trips; Ensure the bus is safely and securely parked/stored at all times; Advise the Facilities Manager of any bus maintenance or repair needs immediately. Clean the bus by sweeping, removing trash, and washing, as required. Complete and submit transportation records as required. Deliver accurate messages to parents, as requested. Keep interior and exterior of bus clean and washed. SCHOOL SUPPORT Work directly with school staff to ensure services are available to enrolled children as assigned by school administration. Provide backup for education staff; Provide other school support as assigned. COMMUNICATION AND DEBRIEFINGS Communication and debriefing with staff at school; Attend relevant meetings and training as assigned; (Bilingual Schoolwide Aide) Assist with bilingual communication needs as directed; Report transportation concerns to Facilities Manager. GENERAL MAINTENANCE Daily cleaning as required both inside and outside. OTHER DUTIES May be assigned other related duties as appropriate and within the scope of general responsibilities for this position. REQUIRED JOB SPECIFICATIONS Education: High school diploma or equivalent Certification or Accreditation: CDL with required endorsements, CPR/First Aid Certification and Food Handler Certification Essential Skills: Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and basic computer knowledge. Ability to apply the understanding of developmentally appropriate activities of children; meet and promote the social-emotional, physical, and cognitive development needs of children. Bilingual Schoolwide Aide's must understand and support the teacher/family relationship by providing interpreting assistance for children, families, and the public as required. Essential Mental Abilities: Must be organized, flexible and resolution oriented. Ability to multi-task, make sound judgements and demonstrate appropriate role modeling. Ability to work as a team member and to be self-directed. Essential Physical Requirements: Ability to intermittently lift, carry, push and pull 25 pounds; occasionally lift, carry, push and pull between 11 pounds and 35 pounds; frequently lift; carry, push and pull up to 10 pounds; intermittently lift 10 pounds to an overhead position; from a standing position, ability to run 50 feet in 7 seconds; sufficient mobility and range of motion to perform repetitive standing, walking, balancing, stooping, bending, crouching, crawling, sitting on the floor, reaching, squatting or kneeling, and twisting for up to 8 hours per day; sufficient stamina to perform job duties at frequency required; frequently react quickly to the physical actions of children; perform the physical requirements of a bus driver and a bus monitor as outlined in ODE Rule 581-053-XXXX; operate a motor vehicle; sufficient vision and hearing to perform job duties; sufficient manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination to perform job duties. Bus Driver: Ability to perform physical requirements of bus driver duties as outlined in the Oregon Department of Education Regulations & Responsibilities. Which requires: manually operate door control with a force of 30 pounds; climb and descend 17 inch steps; operate two hand controls simultaneously and quickly; depress a brake pedal with foot pressure of 90 pounds; depress clutch pedal with foot pressure of 40 pounds; exit from emergency door opening of 24x48 inches and 42 inches from the ground; move from the front of the bus to the rear exit and deactivate the alarm in 10 seconds; open all emergency exits; open the hood; climb up and add/check motor fluids; perform inspection of both inside, outside and underneath of bus requiring bending, stooping, crouching, rare crawling at or below 24 inches; ability to carry or drag a 125 pound person a distance of 30 feet in 30 seconds. Exposure to Hazards: Unpredictable child and family behavior, hazardous chemicals, contagious conditions, occasional work with pc and other office equipment, driving and riding in motor vehicles and school busses. Working Conditions: Indoor and outdoor center environments; frequent local travel in school bus. EMPLOYMENT CONTINGENT UPON: Pre-employment health screening as required by company and position (may include, but is not limited to: drug screening, occupational health screening and /or functional testing) Valid Commercial School Bus Driver's License with endorsements Current First Aid/CPR certification within 30 days of employment Obtain Food Handlers certification within 30 days of employment REPORTS TO: Facilities Manager Revised: February 15, 2023
