About WSM WorkSource Montgomery, Inc. (WSM) is a nonprofit organization and fiduciary agent for Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act funding in Montgomery County. The non-profit organization operates the American Job Centers in Wheaton and Germantown and provides employment services to county residents who are unemployed or underemployed. Additionally, WSM engages employers in various industries throughout the county to ensure that their workforce needs are being met. Job Overview WorkSource Montgomery's Communications team plays a pivotal role in building WSM's brand and promoting our programs and services to everyone across Montgomery County. We're professional storytellers and experts at effective employee and public/external communications, organic social media, media relations, and collaborations with community partners to promote their activities. We are seeking a Communications Lead who will report directly to the Director of Communications. This role collaborates with other functional departments to obtain the content/expertise needed to develop effective and consistent communications across various internal and external audiences. The Communications Lead will assist the Director of Communications in developing communications strategies, manage the Communications and Social Media Coordinators, and ensure the accurate and timely development of all communications materials. The position will offer creative and strategic advice and oversight to develop and enhance WSM's brand presence to ensure it effectively communicates WSM's mission, vision, and goals to all its stakeholders. Candidate Requirements: The successful candidate will be a highly organized, proactive, resourceful, and self-motivated leader with a "roll up the sleeves" mentality and strong sense of urgency. The candidate should possess a proven track record of setting, driving, and delivering objectives and projects, and have demonstrated ability to successfully lead and influence others. This individual should also have an excellent understanding of the digital space, including Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe Creative Suite, and Canva. Graphic design experience is a must. Project Management and Operational Excellence (strategy development, performance management, leadership and culture, process excellence) certifications are also desirable. Minimum Requirements: Candidate must have 5-7 years of experience in corporate communications, marketing, marcoms, graphic design, creative services, or other related field. Candidate must have a bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing/Marcoms, Corporate Communications, Mass Communications, Digital Marketing, Graphic Design. Strong proficiency in Microsoft office programs, Adobe Creative Suite, and Canva a must. Related industry certifications/certificates (i.e., Adobe Creative Suite, project management, etc.) are desirable. Additional education may substitute for required experience, but its relevance is at the discretion of the Communications Director. Prior supervisory experience is a plus. SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Content Planning & Delivery - 50% Work with the Communications Director to envision, develop, and implement an effective and comprehensive long-term communications strategy in collaboration with internal and external partners. Demonstrate a general understanding of business strategies and build them into communications approaches and materials. Ability to write for many different channels and formats, while bringing a creative flair to the finished product. Manage and coordinate multiple streams of content across multiple platforms, including websites, social media accounts, print products, email marketing, podcasts, and internal communications platforms. Develop benchmark criteria to track and evaluate the effectiveness of content strategies. Collaboratively develop and advance WSM's voice and brand integrity across all platforms and media. Oversee and contribute to the creation of communications content, including web and media relations tools. All communication materials must be succinct, engaging and visually appealing. Manage and advance the WSM editorial calendar and content delivery for the WSM brand. Analyze and report on audience definition and engagement, marketing performance, and brand coverage and positioning. Work with internal WSM SMEs and partners to develop and position stories and messaging. Knowledge/interest in exploring new channels and/or opportunities to bring internal content to life. Social Media & Digital Engagement 15% Work with Communications Director to create social media strategy with an emphasis on audience growth, development, and engagement. Supervise Social Media Coordinator and help oversee the creation of all social media and marketing content. Oversee digital metrics reporting and analytics. Supervise social media coordinator's monthly creation of social media/digital analytics dashboard. Manage strategic content performance and tools development. Ensure brand visual and voice consistency across all social media channels. Collaborate with SMEs & stakeholders to generate ideas to drive inbound traffic and both organic and paid engagement for digital channels. Work with Social Media Coordinator to monitor all social channels in real-time for both engagement and quality assurance. Experience managing company intranets and/or websites, with an eye for usability and creative "look and feel". Brand, Outreach, & Media Relations 15% Support the development and execution of a comprehensive brand management strategy including online and direct marketing and media relations. Prior e xperience and/or expertise in enterprise-wide corporate branding projects is desired. Contribute to media relations efforts by identifying compelling or stakeholder-valued media placement opportunities; creating and maintaining relationships in media; developing and producing media advisories and press releases; and helping to coordinate media availabilities, interviews, public speaking opportunities and other opportunities for external exposure. Work with Comms (Production) Coordinator to maintain WSM distribution lists and mail groups, working in partnership with other WSM stakeholders. Support other WSM teams and/or partners' key events and initiatives (March Intro Employment, National Apprenticeship Week, etc.). Leadership and Governance 10% Guide WSM team members in the use of templates, request forms, Comms documentation, and brand guidelines in the development of WSM communications materials. Supervise/manage day-to-day operations of Comms Team to ensure on-time creation of all project deliverables and staff requests' due dates. Monitor and report any issues to Communications Director. Mentor team members and share expertise. Represent WSM Comms function on select internal cross-functional and external committees and partner with WSM team members to execute projects. Create and maintain an integrated enterprise-wide calendar/dashboard to increase cross functional visibility to key internal /external milestones, speaking engagements and internal communications. Intranet may be used to achieve this. Assist Comms Director in managing relationships with vendors. Comms SOP & Documents Management 5% Serve as Comms knowledge and resource manager; create/maintain Comms documents that educate and drive organization-wide understanding, engagement and adherence to key Comms processes and resources. This includes, but is not limited to, Comms SOP and other policies, comms request forms, brand style guide, etc. Document key processes and WSM Comms responsibilities; work with Comms Director to capture SOPs, policies, SLAs owned by the function. Events Management 5% Conceive, plan, and coordinate in-person and virtual events to support the mission of WSM and its partners, as assigned. Ensure that any requests/needs to have a member of the Comms Team present at WSM (or partners') events to take real-time pictures, videos, and/or create content of event are met. Manage swag ordering process and inventory to ensure there's a minimum level of swag on-hand at all times. Ability to attend various events across Montgomery County, MD is expected. Must have own transportation. Special knowledge, technical skills, and abilities Bilingual in Spanish with ability to speak fluently, read, write and translate content is strongly preferred. Highly effective verbal and written communication skills, including copywriting, proofreading, and editing skills. Exceptional collaboration skills with the ability to partner effectively within the function and across the enterprise to drive and scale comms strategies. Ability to build collaborative working relationships and identify, assess, and meet diverse client needs. Proven track record of proactively identifying and resolving business issues, and creating new and innovative ways of doing things, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to rapidly changing environment. Ability to organize workflow, prioritize and manage multiple projects with minimal direction, meet deadlines, think critically and creatively, and exercise sound judgment. Strong project management and change management experience with the ability to develop and execute clear action plans. In-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, TikTok, etc.) and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios. Also, a working knowledge of social media tools (i.e., Sprout Social) and monitoring and reporting services. Experience with WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and Google Analytics. Photography and videography skills (includes editing). Experience with podcasts - how to create and publish content. Knowledge of regional and national print, broadcast and electronic media outlets, and social networking, including web-based and online media/information sites. Stays informed of industry best-practices for performance reporting and relevant online tools. Ability to review data and determine trends. Ability to assist in developing action plans based on the data. Ability to work independently, to assess situations and respond appropriately. Requires a willingness to accept change and demonstrate flexibility. Awareness of the need for timely communication, ability to identify potential barriers and strategies, and ability to synthesize and integrate information.
