Summary of Responsibilities : The primary function of the Community Supervision Officer is to provide responsible supervision to assigned clients in order to ensure compliance with court-ordered conditions thereby, providing a service to the Courts, the community and the clients on probation. Essential Responsibilities and Functions : Supervise clients to monitor compliance with the orders of the Courts Maintain accurate chronological records on all client activity Prepare monthly statistical reports Assist the Courts in revocation hearings as necessary Schedule assessments and assists with referrals, perform reassessments Perform other related duties as assigned to include but not limited to : Refer clients to appropriate community resource agencies in an effort to effectuate their rehabilitation Ensure all fees are paid on a timely basis Notify the Court immediately, through proper channels, of any violations of probation Implement Evidence-Based Practices such as Motivational Interviewing in caseload management Ensure compliance with all Community Justice Assistance Division Standards Observe the collection of urine samples for drug screening on clients on probation to assure that no foreign substance is introduced into the sample as needed Contribute to and helps create a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a cooperative and amicable manner with supervisors, coworkers, subordinates and members of the public Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : Possess the State mandated qualifications for a Community Supervision Officer or Obtain the State mandated qualifications for a Community Supervision Officer within one (1) year of employment Failure to pass the test may result in a termination of employment A Community Supervision Officer in Texas cannot be employed as a peace officer or work as a reserve or volunteer peace officer; and cannot be currently on community supervision, parole, or serving a sentence for a criminal offense Minimum Qualifications : Bachelor's Degree conferred by an institution of higher education accredited by an accrediting organization recognized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Degree must be in criminal justice, criminology, corrections, counseling, human services development, law, law enforcement, social work, psychology, or sociology. If the bachelor's degree is not in one of these fields, applicants must have: A minimum of one year of graduate study in one of these fields; or A minimum of one year of experience in fulltime casework, counseling, or community or group work that has been approved by the Criminal Justice Assistance Division director.
