The Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota is seeking an outstanding scientist with a strong background in biomechanical engineering and/or mechanobiology to establish a robust translational research laboratory focused on clinically-relevant musculoskeletal conditions. Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent degree) in an engineering or engineering-related discipline, with a track record of success in extramural funding, publications, and collaboration with clinicians (with particular emphasis on scholarship relevant to biomechanics, including materials testing, implant development and design, mechanobiology, and medical imaging). Appointment and academic rank will be determined based on the applicant's qualifications.Expectations for the successful scientist include leadership of a nationally recognized independent musculoskeletal research laboratory. The ideal candidate will engage directly with numerous clinicians and scientists within the Department and with other investigators in relevant research centers and departments across Mayo Clinic. The successful candidate will also participate in Department-led research educational and training programs, including an NIH-funded musculoskeletal research training program, and may have a track record of entrepreneurship and technology commercialization.
