Salary Range: $96,755.00 - $149,345.00 Develop and direct the programs and activities of Public Works & Facilities Departments.This position requires extensive knowledge of and experience with public works functions such as road construction, fleet management, grounds maintenance, storm water and drainage, plowing and sanding of roads, along with comprehensive knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment required. Must have experience with strategic planning; developing and managing municipal budgets; ability to motivate, direct and supervise public works and facilities staff; experience in directing and implementing emergency storm response systems and other major emergencies. Must possess thorough knowledge of State and Federal safety standards and practices; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with town staff, State and Federal officials and the public. The Director of Public Works & Facilities is required to exercise considerable independent judgment in administering and managing the departments and is responsible for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under his/her direction and control. Minimum Qualifications The minimum qualifications are a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related field and five (5) or more years of increasingly responsible work in public works and facilities maintenance administration, including three years in a public works unionized supervisory capacity. Must have and maintain: valid Driver’s License and State of CT Tree Warden Certification. Certified Playground Safety Inspector Certification preferred. Selection Process All appointments and promotions shall be made according to merit and fitness for performing the functions of the position, including factors such as education, experience, aptitude, knowledge, character, ethics, or other qualifications that would determine the best candidate for the position. Examinations may include written, oral, physical, or performance tests or any combination of the various types of examinations.
