Samuels and Son Seafood, the nation's leading purveyor of fresh and frozen seafood has a unique and exciting opportunity for the right person who is interested in working in purchasing. In-depth training is provided. Job description: --- Strong ability to negotiate and secure best prices and terms --- Strong understanding of the global seafood marketplace --- Studies global market prices and trends to aid in decision making based on accurate research and market conditions --- Makes regular purchases of assigned items at best possible market prices based on sales flow --- Introduce new items from suppliers to the various sales departments --- Make large scale commodity purchases at best possible market prices --- Introduce new items from suppliers to the various sales teams --- Strong attention to detail in regards to product specifications and quality --- Secures and analyzes quotations; negotiates prices and terms with suppliers --- Attends category specific trade shows as required. Skill Requirements: --- 2 years or more purchasing experience (seafood/food preferred) --- Must have experience working within an importing/exporting environment --- Proven ability to work with Senior Management --- Experience in large commodity purchasing --- Strong analytical and excellent communication skills --- Demonstrate collaboration, negotiation and influencing skills --- Experience inventory control and sourcing --- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously --- Strong knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook and internet savvy Minimum Requirements: --- Computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite --- 1-2 years' experience in a Buyer/Purchasing position required --- Bachelor's degree preferred. Equivalent education and experience considered. --- Ability to Lift, Push, Pull 30 lbs. --- Knowledge of Seafood Industry preferred but not required. --- Excellent communication skills, high attention to detail. --- A passion for food
