The City of Iqaluit is looking for a dynamic Youth Programmer who wants to make a difference in our community! Title: Recreational Youth Programmer Department: Recreation Status: Full-time permanent Salary: $65,900.13 per annum, 35 hour/week Settlement Allowance: $20,907.43 per annum Union Status: Unionized This employment opportunity is open to all applicants. The Youth Programmer reports to and works with the Youth Coordinator to provide a safe and stimulating environment for those between the ages of 9 and 18 years old. This is done through developing and implementing recreational programs at the centre and in the community, providing training to Youth Leaders and volunteers, supervising activities, assisting with special events and fundraising in the community, keeping the youth informed through local media, youth centre newsletter, website and other avenues, and by promoting a safe, drug and alcohol free environment by seeting a positive example to youth. Other duties include, but are not limited to: assisting in workshops that concern youth, keeping accurate records of youth participants and counselling youth on various issues and referring them to appropriate agencies or services as needed. This position requires dependability to work days, evenings, some weekends, as well as, being on call when required. This position may be subject to a shift rotation between day and night shifts. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS College or University degree in Recreation or directly related field Minimum three years’ experience working in a recreational setting Minimum two years’ supervisory experience Proven leadership skills Valid CPR and First Aid certifications Class 5 Driver’s License Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills Strong computer skills Effective communication skills both orally and in writing The following are considered definite assets: ASSIST (Suicide prevention training), High Five training, safe food handling training, and the.
