Date Posted: 01/10/2024 Req ID: 35613 Faculty/Division: Uof T Mississauga Department: UTM: Visual Studies Campus: University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) Description: Course number and title: FAH451H5 Curating Now: Turning Concepts into Curatorial Projects Students will research and develop a curatorial project proposal in the form of an exhibition, a public installation, a public event, a performance, a website, etc. as the culminating assignment for the course. The emphasis of the course will be on the application of knowledge gained in FAH310H5 and consideration of the multi-level preparatory stages entailed in the mounting of a curatorial project, placing particular emphasis on conceptualization and methodology, and on the premise that curatorial practice is an intellectual endeavour that manifests its ideas in form. Students will learn how to turn a concept into a project proposal and become equipped to develop innovative solutions to future challenges in curatorial practice. Estimated course enrolment: 14 Estimated TA support: Class schedule: Wednesday 9:00-12:00 Sessional dates of appointment: January 8th, 2024 - April 30th, 2024, the instructor will start teaching on January 17th, 2024. $9,457.90 (Sessional Lecturer I) $9,930.79 (Sessional Lecturer I Long Term) $10,121.77 (Sessional Lecturer II) $10,326.62 (Sessional Lecturer II Long Term) $10,362.76 (Sessional Lecturer III) $10,570.02 (Sessional Lecturer III Long Term) (inclusive of 4% or 6% vacation pay) for 0.5 FCE (half course) Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail. Minimum qualifications: A Ph. D is essential. A curatorial background is required. Demonstrated excellence in teaching this UTM course is preferred.
