Date Posted : November 29, 2023 Req Id : 35585 Faculty/Division : School of Management Department : School of Management Campus : St. George (Downtown) The Centre for Professional Skills (CPS) is a growing centre within Rotman Commerce with the mandate of supporting RC students in developing a core set of professional skills via cumulative curricular and co-curricular touch points throughout their degree. One area of focus for CPS is developing programs that target the communication skills of RC students, including writing and presentation coaching appointments. Duties: CPS is inviting applications for a writing instructor role. The primary duty of CPS writing instructors is to provide both individual and group writing appointments to Bachelor of Commerce students. Instructors will tutor students on responses to the assigned topic, use of sources, organization, argumentation, style, proficiency with language, and aspects of business writing style. They may also tutor students on note-taking, modes of argument, and methods for reading, planning, drafting and revising texts. In addition to supporting writing communication skills, the writing instructor will be asked to provide individual and group appointments to help students develop presentation and oral communication skills. Writing appointments and instruction will be delivered online /remotely (using WCOnline or Zoom) with some sessions in person, to be scheduled in consultation with the writing instructor depending on schedule and preference. Minimum qualifications: • Excellent written and oral communication skills; • A Master's degree in a relevant discipline (such as, but not limited to, Communication, English, Linguistics, Education); • In-person and online experience teaching writing one-on-one and/or teaching in university courses with a significant writing instruction component; • A scholarly approach to one-to-one writing instruction, including familiarity with best practices in this.
