The Building Services Group at the Department of Public Works supports Nova Scotia’s 2,400 buildings and infrastructure assets across a wide range of clients. We maintain and support various government buildings and other built assets, including museums, core buildings and office buildings supporting the work of government, correctional centres, and justice centres. Without our Building Services staff’s proactive measures, equipment issues or failures could lead to an interruption of services provided. The Electricians are just one of our key team players who support the overall safety and efficiency of our provincial building infrastructure. About Our Opportunity As an Electrician, you will be inspecting, maintaining, repairing, renovating and/or installing electrical systems and related equipment in provincially owned and leased buildings serviced by the Department, under minimal supervision. Primary Accountabilities You will be responsible for: Electrical motors, distribution systems equipment, motor control centres; Lighting and controls, building automation; and Fire alarm, security, communication, and emergency power systems. You have the important responsibility for ensuring that all work completed is in compliance with the Canadian Electrical Code, National Building Code of Canada, National Fire Code of Canada and Department requirements. Qualifications and Experience You have High School completion plus a Nova Scotia Certificate of Qualification (Construction Electrician) or Red Seal Electrician. Frequent travel is a component of this position; as such, a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required. You have experience with communication.
