If this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you! The Housing, Planning and Cities team (HPC) are a friendly team of about 20 people. We are responsible for over £10 billion of public spending each year, covering a huge range of government priorities including homelessness, housing, planning reform, local economic growth and the ‘levelling up’ of communities across the UK. Our work is at the centre of government, and therefore is an exciting place to learn, develop and build an understanding of how government policy making works. About the role We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced economist, in the role of Head of Economics and Strategy. In this role, you will undertake insightful analysis to shape high priority policy discussion, as well as breadth to design new policies and manage large, very high-profile capital programmes. You will have the chance to utilise your expertise to provide analytical leadership across housing spending programmes, regulations, and design of new policies, ensuring that they deliver value for money as well as addressing housing affordability. Alongside this, you will lead exciting cross-cutting work to improve the delivery of evaluations across Housing and Local Growth spending programmes, and consolidating existing evidence base to advise future Spending Reviews. You will also have spending control responsibility, managing large capital programmes to deliver meaningful objectives for the public, including Building Safety and migrant resettlement schemes. Key accountabilities Play a leading role in developing a coherent overarching strategy for housing and local growth interventions, shaping DLUHC’s priorities at the Spending Review.
