Position Summary The Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for understanding and implementing the organization's safety program to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment. The Health and Safety Specialist is charged with providing support and leadership to build a safety culture through technical support, program development, and relationship building. Responsibilities Partners with internal business leaders to share information, make recommendations, and drive alignment and understanding of current safety risks and initiatives. Using leading and lagging indicators to develop and maintain a facility-wide risk assessment to identify and prioritize risk reduction activities. Tracks and analyzes safety and incident-related data to uncover trends and themes; makes recommendations based on objective analytical conclusions. Implements and audits safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA/TOSHA) rules and regulations. Develops and conducts specialized safety training. Assists in the maintenance of facility emergency response plans. Evaluates working conditions and recommend improvements in safety and health methods, practices, and procedures and follow up to ensure corrective measures have been implemented. Works with production supervisors to identify the root cause analysis for near misses and work-related incidents. Works with other departments to drive employee participation in safety programs. Facilitates Safety Committees. Participates in regulatory compliance inspections. All other duties assigned. Basic Requirements: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Minimum of three to five years' experience in manufacturing with responsibility for safety program development and execution. Experience in metal-casting foundry preferred. Summary of Necessary Knowledge, Experience and Skills: Strong interpersonal, communication, and organization skills Demonstrated ability to effectively lead projects/programs to completion Strong understanding of manufacturing and business operations Demonstrated excellence in relationship building with working partners; including all levels of management, peers, and external partners Must be able to define and solve problems, collect data, establish facts, and formulate valid conclusions Microsoft Office and Windows-based products and computer skills. Demonstrate good leadership and ethical practices.
