Dentist physician employment in Missouri : Reviews patient's medical and dental history for conditions such as medical illnesses and use of drugs which may alter dental hygiene treatment; examines teeth and surrounding tissues for evidence of plaque and periodontal disease; inspects mouth and throat for evidence of disease such as oral cancer; and interprets routine x-rays to identify tooth structures, calculus, and abnormalities such as cavities and deep periodontal pockets. Refers abnormalities to dentist. Plans dental hygiene treatment for patient including assessment of the problem, oral hygiene care required, and sequence of appointments. Performs complete oral prophylaxis on ambulatory and non-ambulatory patients to include deep subgingival scaling, root planing, and curettage under local anesthesia as directed by and under supervision if dentist. Polishes teeth and applies stannous fluoride. Instructs patients in home care after curettage.
