A Brief Overview The Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner promotes and protects the health and safety of the CHOP workforce. In collaboration with the Occupational Health Medical Director, the Nurse Practitioner provides occupational health related care management to CHOP employees. The Nurse Practitioner provides clinical assessment and diagnosis, interventions, evaluation, and follow-up. This is primarily accomplished through prevention (i.e., ensuring fitness for duty, safety efforts), early recognition (i.e., medical surveillance), and evaluation/treatment of work-related health events. The Nurse Practitioner participates in professional leadership activities including quality improvement, education, and consultation. Participation in scholarly activities is a part of the role. What you will do Utilizes advanced assessment skills to manage the care of employees with work related injuries and illnesses. Provides advice and management of complex bloodborne pathogen and other infectious disease exposures. This may involve on-call duties. Performs and documents assessments. Collects and analyzes data and formulates an employee occupational health focused plan of care. Performs any needed advanced procedures that are listed in the Scope of Practice Document and approved as a part of the credentialing process. Evaluates and monitors the effectiveness of the prescribed treatment plan. Using the most current evidence, modifies the plan of care based on the effectiveness of the treatment and the employee's response to the plan. Utilizes advanced knowledge and assessment skills to Perform pre-placement, medical surveillance, return to work, and fitness for duty evaluations to assess a workers' ability to safely perform their job functions with or without restrictions and/or accommodations. Provide travel health services to staff traveling abroad through Global Health and Surgical Mission programs. Develop and administer medical surveillance programs including areas of reproductive hazards, hazardous drugs, laser, and other Research Institute employee safety needs. Provide content expertise for OH related policies and procedures. Provides expert Occupational Health consultation support to organization. Acts as a preceptor and mentor to support the development of OH nurses, students, and health care members across other teams. Demonstrates a commitment to patient and employee safety by Participating in and leading safety related rounds and committees Speaking up about safety issues and changing practice to enhance safety. Shares errors or potential errors through system reporting mechanisms. Demonstrates shared accountability for safe practice. Participates in scholarly activities including research and education. Participates in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate educational offerings. Education Qualifications Master's Degree Nursing Required Doctorate Nursing Preferred Experience Qualifications At least three (3) years nursing Required At least one (1) year nurse practitioner Required in Occupational Health Preferred Licenses and Certifications Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required and Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required and Prescriptive Authority (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required and Specialty Certification - National Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in area of education/subspecialty. Required certification must match scope of practice for that practice area. - upon hire - Required To carry out its mission, CHOP is committed to supporting the health of our patients, families, workforce, and global community.
