Apply by: March 14, 2024 Position Summary Reporting to the Managing Director of Private Equity, this position is responsible for helping oversee the New York State Teachers' Retirement System's private equity and private debt portfolios and manage the team. Key areas of responsibility include strategy, investment due diligence, performance monitoring and reporting, compliance, and associated operations. Minimum Qualifications A bachelor's degree and ten (10) years of institutional private equity experience with an investment management organization, pension consulting firm or plan sponsor, including:Five (5) years of leadership experience including managing and developing staff, and experience interacting at Executive/Board level, ANDFive (5) years of Private Equity and/or Private Debt investment management experience including conducting research, sourcing opportunities, conducting, and managing the due diligence process for primary funds, and making recommendations to an Investment Committee and/or Board. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in business administration CFA and/or CAIA Charter holder Strong professional network including both general partners and limited partners. Experience serving on Limited Partner Advisory Committees Strong analytical skills Excellent interpersonal communication skills Excellent oral and written communication skills Attention to detail. Ability to make and support business and investment decisions while taking into consideration other viewpoints and enterprise-wide needs. Ability to organize and prioritize work in a dynamic and complex environment to meet deadlines and daily requirements. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently but also as a team player. Commitment to providing exceptional customer service. Working knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Experience underwriting co-investments Job Duties The duties of the Deputy Managing Director, Private Equities include, but will not be limited to, the following: Assist the Managing Director of Private Equity with oversight of the Private Equity and Private Debt portfolios. Assist the Managing Director of Private Equity with creating and executing on a long-term strategic plan as it relates to staffing and staff professional development. In the absence of the Managing Director of Private Equity, represent Private Equity at Executive staff, committee, and Board related meetings. Oversee and participate in various administrative activities including annual budget process, and investment policy manual review. Active involvement in the Private Equity LP community to stay current with industry trends and establish and maintain professional networks. Develops and implements strategic and tactical asset allocation of the private equity and private debt portfolios in conjunction with the System's non-discretionary consultants. Develops and implements a rigorous evaluation process to ensure selection of appropriate private equity and private debt managers for the System's portfolio including all stages of investment due diligence process and legal document negotiations on business issues in conjunction with NYSTRS' legal department and external fund counsel. Monitors existing investments and assists in managing relationships with the System's non-discretionary consultants, General Partners of the System's private equity and private debt investments and other Limited Partners ("LP") Performs such other duties as assigned by the Managing Director of Private Equity Travel Periodic travel required. Salary Grade This is a Management position.Salary Range$180,423 - $203,068Please note: 2024-2025 Salary schedules will be shared as soon as they are available.
