Youth Counselor/ Mentor Litchfield, CT 06759 Full Time 40 hours per week ABOUT THE JOB: The residential Youth Counselor is dedicated to the direct supervision of adolescent boys in a short-term transitional living program. Youth Counselors cultivate a safe, healthy, therapeutic, nurturing and caring home environment that is supportive of each participant’s individualized needs, social, emotional, and academic development. Youth Counselors are positive role models offering support, strength-based encouragement and protection of youth in their care, advocating for youth and sharing information and updates with parents/guardians. WORK SCHEDULE AND RATE OF PAY: Full-time – Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 9:00pm-7:00am You can also accept per diem hours as they become available Overtime/ time and a half eligible Rate of pay is $18.00 per hour QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Minimum High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 2 years human services experience – Required Must have valid driver’s license - Required Bachelor’s Degree or Associate’s Degree (60 completed credits) and direct care experience - Preferred Two years of experience providing direct care to adolescent boys - Preferred Knowledge of strengths-based and trauma sensitive programming – Preferred Professional written and verbal communication skills JOB DESCRIPTION CONTINUED: Maintaining constant sight and sound supervision of youths within established program expectations and guidelines Ensure physical safety of youth and provide crisis intervention as needed Following established routines, schedules, and structure, like wake up and bedtimes, and transition to school Recording observations and maintaining records and reports, daily documentation and logs Monitoring access to and ensuring personal hygiene of youths, and maintenance/upkeep of bedrooms Monitoring and reporting healthcare needs or concerns, and ensuring compliance with daily medication regimen through support, encouragement, and self-care education Accompanying youths between facilities, meetings, appointments and/or other activities Ensuring living spaces are organized, clean, safe and free from hazards Supervise youths during meal times Support and facilitate the implementation of youths’ individualized care plans and schedules May assist in the pre-orientation, admission, and intake process May assist in the facilitation of groups and may lead the facilitation of psychoeducational groups May provide transportation to adolescents and families as programmatic needs dictate Ability to obtain and maintain the following certifications: Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) First Aid/CPR Medication Administration FULL-TIME BENEFITS: At CJR, we pride ourselves on creating a compassionate, culturally responsive work environment and offering a comprehensive benefits package that encourages and supports a healthy work/life balance.
