There is an on-call six days a month.* Requirements: ASN and Minimum 2 years' experience; BLS and ACLS within 30 days of hire or transfer* Preferred: Nurse Supervisor and/or Charge Nurse experience* Cardiovascular Acute Care RN experience: OR,CV PCU, CV IMC, Cardiac ICU orCVICU-Full Time. Preferred additional experience working in Cath and/or EP lab.* Patient Population: Adult Cardiology, Electrophysiology and Vascular patients.* Patient Ratios: Cath/RP team comprised of RN's and Rad Techs working in 3-4 person teams to manage procedural patient care, collaborating with other RN's, providers and anesthesia providers.* Number of Beds: 5 total invasive cardiology labs, including 2 electrophysiology labs. Department Specifics: The BHVH Cath/EP Lab, working in conjunction with Baylor All Saints, is the only hospital in Tarrant countprovidinga full spectrum of Cardiology services, including LVAD, ECMO, E-CPR, TAVR,MitraClipand advanced heart failure programs. Over 1800 invasive cardiology procedures per year and over 800 electrophysiology and cardiac implantations per year. We cross-train staff members to be proficient in multiple roles in the Cath/EP Lab.Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital (BHVH) is a nationally recognized destination hospital for heart and vascular care in North Texas as well as much of the surrounding region. BHVH was founded in 2002 and was the first North Texas hospital dedicated solely to the care and treatment of heart and vascular disease. The number of lifesaving and life-changing procedures offered has continued to increase since that time. JOB SUMMARY The Supervisor, Nursing Catheter Lab Registered Nurse (RN) is accountable for supervision of assigned nursing and unit-based personnel to provide a safe, caring environment for patients, family and staff which fosters professional nursing practice, mutual conclusion-making, inter-professional synergy and partnership with positive patient and staff outcomes. The Supervisor oversees day-to-day operations and productivity and assists the Nursing Manager in planning, developing, implementing, evaluating, and monitoring policies and procedures, budgets and the allocation of resources, quality/performance improvement initiatives, educational programs, and mutual governance councils to achieve departmental and organizational goals and targets. Provides nursing care as needed. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE Clinical Judgment: Creates, fosters, and sustains a healthy work environment which helps evidence-based practice and research. Coordinates patient care through partnership with inter-professional team members in planning, implementing, and evaluating patients' plans of care. Identifies potential problems and/or resources for patients and families. Clinical Inquiry: Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, including, but not limited to, nursing delicate indicators. Facilitates practice changes among nursing staff through quality and performance improvement initiatives and use of best, evidence-based practices, and research findings. Identifies, proposes, and conducts clinical research. Caring Practices: Creates and sustains an attentive, helpful, safe and therapeutic environment for patients, families and staff. Assists in the coordination of patient care conferences and inter-professional rounds to address patient/family needs, discharge planning and best care practices and outcomes. Response to Diversity: Identifies issues arising from personal differences and develops awareness of these issues in nursing staff, medical staff, and other health care providers. Advocacy and Moral Agency: Advocates on behalf of the nursing staff to represent the concerns of patients, families, and staff. Fosters an ethical practice environment for professional practice and patient care based on optimum communication, synergy, and coordination of care. Facilitation of Learning: Monitors the learning needs of staff and patients/families and assists in the design, implementation, and evaluation of educational activities to enhance their knowledge and skills. Provides and evaluates a comprehensive onboarding/orientation program for newly hired staff. Functions as a resource within the clinical specialty program. Partnership: Role models, teaches and mentors professional leadership and accountability for nursing's role within the inter-professional health care team. Professionalism: Improves nursing practice and the work environment through promotion and facilitation of mutual governance and conclusion-making processes. Demonstrates commitment to community service. Achieves national board certification in specialty within two years of promotion/appointment as Nursing Supervisor. KEY SUCCESS FACTORS Knowledge and expertise of nursing and patient care standards and procedures. Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations; standards and guidelines of certifying and accrediting bodies; hospital and department/unit standards, protocols, policies and procedures governing the provision of nursing care applicable to the area of assignment. Knowledge of medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights. Ability to make effective hiring and termination recommendations.
