Position Details Position Information Position Title Director of Experiential Learning and Assistant Professor of Law Department LAW Position Category Faculty Job Description Job Summary: The Director of Experiential Learning (Director) has the primary responsibility of overseeing the administration of the Law Schools experiential learning program, including the externship program, clinical courses and projects, and simulation courses. Specifically, the Director will directly oversee the schools robust externship program, which involves liaising with current and potential field placement sites and supervisors, coordinating placements for students, applying and creating policies to ensure a productive and educational experience for externship students, and teaching the instructional portion of our Externship course. The Director of Experiential Learning also oversees our current clinical offerings and has latitude to develop new clinical offerings that comport with the mission of the Law School. The Director works with Law School administration and faculty to apply and, as needed, revise our Experiential Learning curricular policies and ensure appropriate and robust experiential curricular offerings in the Law School, which will allow students to gain hands-on learning experiences in the practice of law, as well as to ensure compliance with relevant ABA Standards. The Director also teaches up to two additional law school courses each year. Job Description: This is a non-tenure-track faculty appointment with a presumptively renewable twelve-month contract. Because the Director will coordinate LMU Laws Externship program each summer, he or she is eligible to receive course release in the fall or spring semester every other year. The position includes future eligibility to apply for a long-term contract and governance rights as to all matters except hiring and promotion of tenured and tenure-track faculty. The Director will work closely with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to ensure the Law Schools compliance with all ABA Standards and Law School policies and procedures regarding experiential learning. Required Qualifications *Juris Doctor; *currently a member of a court of last resort of a state, a U.S. Territory or the District of Columbia and either is licensed in Tennessee or qualified to become licensed in Tennessee under Tenn. S. Ct. R. 7 and willing to become so licensed after hire; *at least five years of experience in law practice; and *evidence of potential for effective teaching and academic advising Preferred Qualifications *experience with and connections within the legal communities of Knoxville, Knox County, and/or East Tennessee; *a personal record of strong academic achievement; *mentoring, counseling, and/or tutoring experience Physical Demands Campus Duncan School of Law Job Duty Job Duty teach all sections of Externship I/II during the fall, spring, and summer semesters, as well as one additional course in the fall and spring semesters; Job Duty facilitate student placements at appropriate sites each semester; Job Duty manage all paperwork associated with the site placements; Job Duty recruit new site placements, Job Duty maintain relationships with existing site placements; Job Duty maintain and develop other experiential learning opportunities for the Law School s students, including simulation courses and clinical opportunities, in coordination with the Experiential Learning and Curriculum Committees and the faculty; Job Duty build and maintain relationships with clinical faculty at other law schools and relevant local, state, and regional organizations; Job Duty promote the mission of Lincoln Memorial University to all faculty, staff, students and the community at large; serve on councils and committees as directed by the Vice President & Dean of the Law School or the President of the University; Job Duty promote effective working relationships among faculty, staff and students; Job Duty comply with the Faculty/Staff Policy Manual and the Law School Supplement; Job Duty provide academic advising to students; Job Duty conduct office/conference hours; and Job Duty participate in annual staff evaluation.
