Your contributions will have a direct impact, aiding the recovery of homeowners and communities after disasters.About the CareerThe Principal Meteorological Software Engineer for the WVS team will spearhead the engineering of data ingest, processing, and delivery pipelines, producing cutting-edge, consistent, and connected proprietary meteorological data for our clients.You will work within a team environment to ensure 24x7 operational excellence of our algorithms, operationalize new meteorological algorithms and data acquisition processes, and develop innovative spatial analytics techniques for meteorological and other hazard-related datasets.The ideal candidate is passionate about weather, highly knowledgeable in meteorological science/industry standards, practices, and infrastructure architectures, and takes ownership of the data products they deliver. You will work closely with Product Management, Science and Analytics, Application User Experience, and Development teams in both operational and experimental capacities.What You'll Do * Manage 24x7 operations of critical computing systems and inbound/outbound data streams. * Maintain the continuity, integrity, and security of data assets. * Coordinate with Science and Analytics team members on R&D activities and advancements in algorithm/data processing. * Operationalize and maintain proprietary algorithms and data processes.Job Qualifications:How You Qualify * Bachelor of Science (or higher) degree in Meteorology, Computer Science, or a related field, or at least 10 years of relevant experience in computer/systems administration, data operations, and related engineering. * Strong background in meteorological data interpretation and analysis. * Advanced understanding of high-availability computing environments. * Over 10 years of experience with a deep understanding of meteorological data and related technologies, including: * Data exchange formats such as NetCDF, HDF, Level 2/3 weather radar, GRIB/GRIB2, ESRI Shapefile, JSON/GeoJSON, XML, ASCII, packed binary, etc. * Remote sensing and observational technologies, including WSR-88D weather radar and meteorological surface/upper air observational networks. * Data distribution technologies like LDM, NOAAPort, Apache Kafka. * Geospatial data tools such as GDAL/OGR, ESRI, ArcPy, GeoPandas. * Strong working knowledge of Linux OS and scripting languages (bash, Perl). * Proficiency in programming languages used in scientific computing and data engineering/analysis, such as Python, Fortran 77/90, C/C++. * Advanced understanding of geospatial/georeferenced datasets. * Knowledge of SQL and spatially-enabled relational database systems, like PostgreSQL (PostGIS). * Organizational skills with the ability to multitask and work independently.Nice to Haves * Experience engineering and deploying solutions on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or similar cloud environments. * Proficiency in DevOps and automation technologies, such as Jenkins, Docker, Terraform, Ansible, Apache Air Flow. * Familiarity with big data tools like Cassandra, Hadoop, Plotly, Storm, BigQuery. * Experience in designing and implementing large-scale event-driven architectures. * Exposure to newer "bleeding-edge" programming languages for data analysis and scientific computing, such as Julia. * Proficiency in working with raster datasets such as GeoTIFF, and familiarity with raster processing and analysis technologies, including tools like QGIS, Rasterio, and MapServer. * Experience working within engineering teams utilizing industry standard tools for project tracking and collaboration, such as Jira and Confluence, and proficiency using version control systems, notably "git" and GitHub#LI-REMOTEAnnual Pay Range:132,600 - 160,000 USDApplication Window:This opportunity is expected to remain posted through the date identified below, subject to business needs.2024-05-21CoreLogic benefits information can be found here: http://www.yourcorebenefits.com/.
