PHYSICAL THERAPY ASSISTANT (PTA) SITE OF SERVICE: Naval Branch Health Clinic, Gulfport, MS. POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS: Degree : Associate degree. Education : Graduate from a college or university accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). Experience : Possess a minimum of one year as a Physical Therapist Assistant after graduation Licensure : Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a physical therapy assistant or possess current certification as a physical therapy assistant/technician as determined by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). Certifications : Current Basic Life Support (BLS) hands on certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross U.S. Citizenship : Shall be a U.S. citizen. English Language Requirement: Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate. Physical Capability: Shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required under the contract . CORE DUTIES : Carry out a program of corrective exercise and treatment for assigned patients, as directed by the physical therapist. Under supervision, administer such treatment as exercise, gait training, massage, whirlpool, hot packs, diathermy, ultrasound, paraffin, ice packs and traction. Instruct patients on segments of the program including proper use of wheelchairs, crutches, braces, and prosthetic appliances and devices. Administer traction to relieve neck and back pain, using intermittent and static traction equipment. Instruct, motivate, and assist patients to learn and improve functional activities. Observe patients during treatments and compile and evaluate data on patients' responses to treatments and progress and report orally or in writing to the physical therapist. Fit patients for, adjust, and train patients in the use and care of orthopedic braces, prostheses, and supportive devices, such as crutches, canes, walkers, and wheelchairs. Confer with members of the physical therapy staff and other health team members, individually and in conference, to exchange, discuss, and evaluate patient information for planning, modifying, and coordinating treatment programs. Coordinate with other departments and the clinic staff to provide complete care to patients. HOURS: Services shall normally be provided Monday through Friday between the hours of 0700 and 1800 hours (an 8.5 hour period which includes an uncompensated 30 munities meal break). The HCW shall each be on duty for 80 hours every two (2) weeks, except during periods of approved leave and holidays. In no instance will the HCW be required to provide services (on-site service plus approved leave and holidays) in excess of 80 hours per two (2) week period. Will not be required to work on federally recognized holidays. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Teamwork skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
