Date Posted: 08/08/2023 Req ID: 33319 Faculty/Division: OISE/UT Department: Dept of Curriculum, Teaching & Learning Campus: St. George (Downtown Toronto) Description: This course examines the theoretical foundations of teaching and learning, and how that theory informs the design and delivery of online instruction. The course utilizes a textbook that is entitled, “How Learning Happens: Seminal Works in Educational Psychology and What They Mean in Practice” by Paul A. Kirschner and Carl Hendrick (2020). Kirschner and Hendrick’s book is organized around a set of 28 significant studies in educational psychology that illuminate different aspects of how learning takes place. Each week, students in this course will read one or two of these seminal articles and discuss its implications for online education. Estimated course enrolment : 25 Estimated TA support : None Class schedule : See job application site for schedule and mode of teaching Sessional dates of appointment : January 2024 to April 2024 Salary : As of September 01, 2021, the minimum stipend is $8,489.67 (inclusive of vacation pay) for a half credit course. Salary may be prorated based on the appointment percentage. Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail. Minimum qualifications : Candidates should possess a doctorate degree in a relevant discipline and demonstrated currency and mastery of the subject area. Mastery may be demonstrated, but not limited to scholarly publications establishing expertise in the area. Preferred qualifications : Over and above the minimum qualifications, preference will be given to individuals with prior graduate teaching experience in this area. Description of duties : Prepare, organize, and teach this half-course graduate seminar; be available to students seeking assistance between classes; evaluate and provide students with feedback.
