Key Job Functions : At VetPowered, the Production Manager is responsible for ensuring that all machining operations (laser, waterjet, turning, milling, 3D printing, Inspection, etc.) as well as all welding and fabrication operations (punching, shearing, welding, bending, fabrication), are safe, planned, tracked, documented, performed correctly (No NCRs) and profitable. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Accountable for all machining, welding, and fabrication operations (hereafter referred to as Production ) at VetPowered to include: Safety of all production personnel, staff, OJT students, and guests at VetPowered. Oversee Profitability Goals to include: Job Costing and Lessons Learned Execution: Planning, Estimating, Procurement, Quality Assurance, Efficiency, and tracking of all jobs. Compliance: Maintain AS9100RevD (or equivalent) quality certification as well as driving the annual audit process. Provide recommendations (that include ROI and a cost benefit analysis) to increase and improve profitability, efficiency, quality, and tracking of all machining and fabrication work at VetPowered. This may include the recommendation to hire new personnel, creation of new positions, additional square footage, acquisition of new equipment/tooling/fixtures, etc. Develop and shape your workforce: Create and/or modify and approve: job descriptions, recruit, interview, and provide employment recommendations for all new machining employees. Train, supervise, counsel, and mentor direct reports and OJT Trainees (when assigned). Foster a safe, clean, and well-organized workplace / 6-S based. Continuously improve processes and procedures to increase profitability, efficiency, morale, and ease of use. Direct programmer(s), machinist(s), and craftsmen to ensure collaboration to create the most efficient programs/processes to reduce the amount of set-ups, scrap, cost of tooling being used, and increase throughput. Within 120 days of reporting onboard reply to all RFQs coming into VetPowered within 7 business days. Review Purchase orders and customer furnished drawings for accuracy and correct revisions. Communicate proposed modifications/drawing/assembly revisions/edits that increase cost or lead time to leadership and customer before signing for POs and/or before production starts (or when discovered). Lead Production meetings such as quoting (after 120 days), planning, lessons learned, NCR, etc. Accountable for all equipment, tooling, supplies, consumables, and items assigned to your care and within your areas of responsibility, and/or property of VetPowered. Ensure machine and weld/fab shops follow established Quality Management procedures to include: Quoting (after 12o days), pre-production planning meetings, work instructions, creation of travelers with all planned operations, inspection, and shipping/receiving to maintain compliance and ensure consistency. Ensure inspections, measurements, and visual verification of products and services are being followed. Ensure regular quality assessments on all incoming materials from vendors and outgoing products for shipping and that all products and materials that fail to meet quality expectations are tagged, documented and rejected (if applicable). Ensure shipments are packaged in accordance with controlled procedures, product requirements, and SOP’s. Work with General Manager and Controller to develop cost budgets for production and provide input and recommendations for monthly job costing analysis to evaluate areas of focus for profitability. Provide Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) data and inputs to General Manager and Controller (and Operations as needed) such as: Quoted Revenue vs Actual Quoted Labor Hours vs Actual Quoted Admin Hours vs Actual Quoted QA/Inspection Hours vs Actual Quoted QA/Inspection Cost vs Actual Quoted Material costs vs Actual Quoted Tooling costs vs Actual Quoted Fixture costs vs Actual Quoted Outside Process(es) costs vs Actual Elapsed time (in days) between receipt of a customer RFQ/RFP and the submission of the RFQ/RFP (after 120 days). Documentation for any RFPs/RFQs which were determined to be No-Bids (after 120 days). Some examples below: Personnel Issue All personnel qualified for this job are busy on other jobs. Personnel are not trained for this job/ Lack of expertise in that area (and identify it) Equipment All equipment required for this job is busy on other jobs. Our equipment is not large enough to accommodate it. We would require: Our equipment cannot hit meet the requested tolerances Materials We do not wish to work on this material (i.e. uranium or beryllium) We do not have experience working on this material Carbon Fiber layups Processes Too complicated for our current team Outside Processes Too complicated for our current team Lessons Learned Report status of personnel, jobs, available capacity, and equipment status to executive team on a daily basis. When you discover a cause, provide an update on what could be done to improve uptime . Complete annual performance reviews for all production staff. Other duties as required in support of the department and company goals. Other duties as required. Qualifications & Work Experience: To perform this job successfully, the candidate must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily (with or without an accommodation). The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 10+ years’ experience performing relevant operations leadership and production scheduling activities. Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering or related fields, or any combination of professional and education experience that it equivalent. Experience in UniPoint, and JobBoss (a plus) Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook Required Attributes and Abilities: Attention to Detail - The ability to accomplish a task while demonstrating a thorough concern for all the areas involved, no matter how small. This 'something' can be a product, a service, one's skill set, or a team's way of working. Important Notes Position Details: This is a full-time salaried (exempt) position (40+ hours/week). Pay: This pay does not include any opportunity for incentive compensation and is only reflective of the base pay for this position. The range of pay for this California-based position is $80,000.00-$140,000.00 annually. Incentive Compensation: Potential for bonus/incentives after one full year of employment. The employee frequently is required to stand; sit; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to push, move, lift or otherwise bear 10-30lbs (35-75lb W/M). Work Environment: The employee works in a contract manufacturing facility in an urban industrial neighborhood.
