Position Title: Refugee Resettlement Mental Health Intern Department: Migration and Refugee Services Reports to: Health Services Supervisor Date written or last revised: August 2023 Primary Function of Position In this role, you will play a vital role in promoting mental health education and wellness within the refugee community of the Salt Lake area. Your responsibilities encompass developing and facilitating mental health wellness classes for specific refugee populations, assisting with mental health screenings, conducting screenings, offering transportation for mental health appointments, and contributing to the development of mental health resources to enhance the well-being of refugees. Major Position Responsibilities Develop and Facilitate Mental Health Wellness Classes: Lead the creation and facilitation of mental health wellness classes to provide valuable education to refugee clients. Develop Psychosocial Educational Resources: Contribute to developing educational resources that focus on psychosocial well-being for refugee clients. Mental Health Outreach and Education: Collaborate in mental health outreach and educational initiatives, fostering awareness and understanding within the refugee community. Coordination of RHS-15 Screenings and Referrals: Assist in coordinating RHS-15 mental health screenings and follow-up referrals as needed. Conduct RHS-15 Screenings: Perform RHS-15 screenings with refugee clients to ensure their mental health needs are addressed. Transportation Assistance: Offer support by transporting clients to mental health appointments when required. Research and Resource Development: Research existing resources to further enhance the mental health program, contributing to its growth and effectiveness. Data Entry: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records through diligent data entry. Additional duties as assigned. Work Environment This role is in a professional office environment, utilizing standard office equipment, including computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Some local travel is anticipated as part of the role's responsibilities. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Experience and Expertise: Possess familiarity with social services and mental health practices, enabling effective work in a team environment with diverse groups of people. Independent Work: Excel in independent work, always ensuring safety and appropriateness in your actions. Problem-Solving: Demonstrate both problem-solving and problem-prevention skills to navigate challenges effectively. Sensitivity: Display sensitivity to the needs of refugee families, CCS staff, volunteers, and partner organizations, promoting a respectful and compassionate environment. Timeliness and Efficiency: Consistently perform work assignments on time, adhering to schedules and deadlines. Effective Communication: Exhibit proficiency in English communication-both oral and written. Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality in all interactions with individuals and families. Computer Proficiency: Demonstrate proficiency in computer skills, contributing to efficient case management and documentation. Personal Qualities: Embody qualities of openness, respect, compassion, and graciousness, enhancing your ability to assist and support others. Education, Training, and Experience Education Level: Must be a current candidate for a higher education degree, a graduate from an accredited university, or an international language student. Refugee Experience: While preferred, previous experience working with refugees is not required but would be valuable. Language Proficiency: Proficiency in another language is preferred, although not mandatory. Background Screening Requirement Must pass a national BCI/FBI background check. Licenses, certifications, and credentials A current Utah driver's license and provide proof of auto insurance meeting minimum policy liability limits of $50,000 per person and $100,000 per incident. Additionally, be 21 years of age or older, maintain a clean driving record, and have the capacity to fulfill CCS vehicle safety standards. Expected Schedule This part-time unpaid internship commitment is 8 - 20 hours per week for 3 - 4 months .
