Web/UI Developer - PEDSnet Contractor

JOB SUMMARY The Department of Biomedical and Health Informatics at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is currently seeking a well qualified web UI developer to work as part of the Data Analytics & Management (DAM) Team in the Department of Biomedical and Health Informatics. This multi-disciplinary team of scientists, bioinformaticians, software engineers and web developers is focused on developing an ecosystem of bioinformatics applications for pediatric research. To aid in this effort, the UI Developer will be expected to leverage a strong working knowledge of UI libraries and tools and an understanding of appropriate visualizations and graphics for data science. They will be expected to both provide typical UI components of a scientific web portal as well as more cutting-edge ways to represent very diverse data. As a result the ideal candidate will be encouraged to think outside the box and take initiatives. JOB FUNCTIONS --- Designs and creates components that interface with secure REST APIs (level 2/3) --- Builds single-page applications for the browsing of medical & scientific information --- Builds specialized data visualization components to provide further insights into data, in particular create custom visualization components tailored for the type of data --- Meets with research scientists and clinicians to help create new design and identify new use cases --- Creates prototypes to help account for feedback iteratively --- Stays up-to-date with new developments in the field (time allocated for training) DSpace, Ruby on Rails, & Apache SOLR metadata and cms as general Strong working knowledge of UI libraries and tools in addition to an understanding of appropriate visualizations and graphics for data science Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Additional skills: DSpace, Ruby on Rails, & Apache SOLR metadata and cms as general Strong working knowledge of UI libraries and tools in addition to an understanding of appropriate visualizations and graphics for data science Strong communication & interpersonal skills within a multi-disciplinary team Ability to work efficiently on multiple projects Experience with / understanding of: Software design principles (OOP & FP concepts, DI/AOP techniques) Agile methodology (UI/UX wireframes and mock-ups) Unix Javascript and ES6/ES7 latest features, possibly alternatives like CoffeeScript, TypeScript, or Dart. HTML5 and CSS3 (and/or alternatives like Less, Sass) HTTP/HTTPS/ REST, including HATEOAS AJAX and WebSockets JSON/XML oAuth/JWT Semantic Web/Linked Data technologies D3/Highcharts/... ReactJS/Redux and/or Angular 1/2 jQuery/underscore/Lo-Dash/... Webpack/NPM/Bower/Grunt/... Mustache/Handlebars/... Git, Jenkis/Travis, Docker/ansible, ...
