Compensation Type: SalariedCompensation: $86,245.51Job SummaryThe Director of Student Engagement and Belonging (SEB) plays a pivotal role in fostering vibrant and inclusive campus culture where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed. This leadership position is dedicated to driving strategic initiatives that enhance student engagement, promote a sense of belonging, and enrich the co-curricular experiences essential for holistic student development.The Director works collaboratively with College stakeholders to create a campus culture that promotes student success to provide a safe and welcoming campus environment for a diverse student body, and to foster a sense of community and belonging among the students.Strategic Leadership * Provides vision and leadership to effectively develop and enhance student engagement and belonging, working closely with leadership, staff, and College community to shape and implement plans and strategies aligned with College goals while creating a welcoming environment for all. * Develops and strengthens alliances with the external community to support student development and engagement inside and outside the College. Collaborate with campus stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and student organizations, to develop and implement comprehensive engagement strategies. * Provides leadership on initiatives and addresses challenges related to student engagement, support, and development and identifies opportunities for institutional improvement. Ensure the development and communication of related College policies, standards, and procedures. Serves as an advocate, mentor, and resource for concerns related to student engagement and belonging. * Leads the formation of departmental and unit strategies and tactics which align division and collegewide strategies and metrics, most notably the College Completion Plan.Student Engagement * Builds on the College's data-informed approach to closing performance gaps and ensuring equity in student outcomes. In partnership with the Senior Director of Student Life, develops a strategic student engagement and co-curricular plan that reflects the College's commitment to best practices in student success and equity. * Collaborates with campus leadership to ensure that co-curricular and extracurricular activities align with the mission, vision, core values and institutional learning outcomes of the College. Oversees the development of programs, activities, and events that encourage student involvement in campus life and student leadership development resulting in increased student satisfaction and retention. * Develops and implements promising practices to decrease barriers to attract and retain students. Establishes feedback mechanisms to solicit student input and assess the effectiveness of engagement efforts, continuously iterating and improving based on student feedback. * Designs and implements mentorship programs that pair students with faculty, staff, alumni, and community mentors to provide guidance, support, and networking opportunities. Develops training resources and workshops to equip mentors with the skills and knowledge necessary to support students effectively. Monitors and evaluates mentorship programs to assess their impact on student success and make data-driven improvements as needed. * Oversees the planning, coordination, and execution of a diverse range of co-curricular activities, events, and programs that enhance students' academic, social, and personal growth. Collaborates with academic departments to integrate co-curricular experiences into the broader educational framework, promoting interdisciplinary learning and skill development. Ensures that co-curricular activities reflect the diversity of student interests and identities, fostering an inclusive environment where all students feel represented and welcome.Operational Leadership * Provides daily oversight of Student Engagement and Belonging. Ensures appropriate staffing at all service points, assigns projects and delegates tasks, creates work schedules including scheduling, provides direction, resolves work problems, communicates job expectations, trains employees and develops professional growth and development opportunities. Carries out, explains, interprets and enforces policy. * Conducts annual employee evaluations, and assists department leadership in recommending pay increases, promotions and other personnel actions. Approves leaves and authorizes overtime as appropriate. Manages employee recruitment, selection and on-boarding process in partnership with Human Resources. Administers disciplinary actions upon approval, and in collaboration with Human Resources. Establishes and maintains a standard of excellent service to students, faculty and internal customers. * Administers the department budget in collaboration with Business Services. Estimates expenses to implement department objectives; completes midyear budget review; reviews and approves requisitions; exercises budgetary controls and reallocates resources when necessary.Communication, Engagement, & Outreach * Coordinates student programming at the College and community level. Plans and hosts College and public events. Proposes and/or develops institutional programming. Deploys and measures initiatives aimed at the promotion of student success and equity of student outcomes. Facilitates group discussions and town hall meetings for students in response to campus, national, and global events that impact their lives and promotes opportunities for growth and development. Collects, analyzes, monitors and disseminates institutional data to benchmark and promote accountability for student engagement and student success at the College. Publishes reports for dissemination, as directed. * Establishes effective modes of communication about ongoing initiatives. Creates and implements communications strategies and content management for training, web resources, social media, and print materials to support student engagement initiatives. Forms and cultivates strategic partnerships with individuals and organizations outside the College to help further its student success agenda.Culture of Respect * Fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and members of the communityMINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED * Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration or related field * Five (5) years of relevant higher education experience in student affairs or a related field * *An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework and experience may qualify a candidateOTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES * Manages multiple assignments of varying complexity and meets tight timelines and deadlines, with the ability to adapt to changing needs of the College and business partners. * Ensures College name and image is perceived positively by external as well as internal audience/stakeholders.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES * Knowledge of: student development theory; best practices in diversity and inclusion; modern diversity and inclusion concepts and issues in higher education; fund development; project administration; recruitment and retention strategies supporting equity and inclusion; multiple communication modes, including social media; laws, regulations, and guidelines related to diversity, inclusion, and nondiscrimination in higher education, including Title IX, Title VI, Title VII, Clery Act, ADEA, ADA, and section 504. * Skill in: strong verbal and written communications; listening; organization; preparing reports; collaboration; strong interpersonal skills; managing change with an understanding of the contexts, cultures, and politics within institutions that impact implementation of effective diversity and change results; cultural awareness; building trust and credibility; analytics and dissemination of data; creating reports. * Ability to: articulate the importance of student support and equity; partner with faculty in curriculum development efforts that advance equity; apply management principles to practical situations; develop and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, students, general public, and other contacts; multi-task; work effectively with diverse student, staff, and faculty populations; maintain confidential and sensitive information.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS * Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions described in this position description.
