Summary: The Director of Accounting is base out of our Corporate Office in Tacoma, Washington. The person in this position oversees all functions of the accounting and IT teams, including but not limited to contract administration, review and risk management, receivables, general ledger, financial statements, job costing, taxes, reporting, account reconciliation and supervising accounts staff.The Director of Accounting is expected to exhibit the behavior of a leader at all times. They seek out challenges and opportunities to stretch beyond their comfort zone.Leaders do not expect others to acquire their similar depth of experience but know how to close the gap between the other person's expertise and their own in order to communicate succinctly but effectively, protect company interests, move goals forward, solve problems, and ensure each interaction is one of learning more about their partners' work styles, goals, areas of need, and process pain points so they may make informed recommendations, iterative improvements, and be seen as a valuable resource to meeting their partners' goals.Job Duties and Functions: * Hires, supervises, coaches, develops, and prioritizes the work flow for the Accounting and IT teams; * Coordinates and prepares internal and external monthly financial reports; * Guides the development of a financial strategy to include revenues, profit maximization, cash flow, cost reduction, and taxes; * Retains competent accounting and IT staff by effectively managing and mentoring employees; * Evaluates the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database. as needed; * Supervises year-end audits with all Company Auditors; * Oversees regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance; * Manages the budget process and advises the owners of any liabilities; * Manages applicable treasury management and reporting; * Ensures accuracy in reconciliations to include bank accounts, taxes, sales, liability expenses, vendor accounts, and job costing; * Maintains financial activities including journal entries; * Reconciles complex ledger accounts and contract information; * Manages accounting and contract files as needed to ensure compliance; * Participates with leadership and strategic planning; * Reviews contracts related to Accounting and IT to ensure accuracy and compliance; * Assesses current accounting operations and recommends appropriate accounting safe-guards , processes, and tracking controls; * Administers the revenue and cost structures to ensure effective financial and business recommendation ; * Leads the implementations of financial policies, new GAAP requirements, and business tax updates; * Provides management with information vital to the decision making process; * Identifies and investigates variances ; * Develops, modifies, reviews, and implements accounting routines, procedures, and controls to assist internal control testing with Auditors; * Responsible for all capital and expense resolutions; * Administers federal, state, and municipal filings; * Manages independent contractor files and processes 1099 forms; * Develops and monitors business performance metrics; * Ensures costs incurred are properly accumulated within contract accounting, * Assists and prepares documents and reports for annual financial audits; * Timely and accurately applies cash receipts against AIR subsidiary ledger. Charges- back unauthorized deductions and collects payments; * Provides customer service and care as needed; * Performs strategic and manage tasks as needed; and * Performs all other duties as assigned. Experience and Skills: Position Specific Requirements: * Valid state driver's license * MA or BA with 2+ additional years of experience or 6+ additional years of experience * Certified Public AccountantPosition Specific Preferred Requirements: * Public accounting experience is strongly preferred * 4 relevant certificationsSupervisory Responsibilities: * This position may have five or more direct and/or indirect supervisory responsibilities. It is the Supervisor's duty to mentor, train, develop, set direction, and support. The Supervisor will act as a communicator and will be a resource to improve processes and quality. It will also be the Supervisor's job to introduce, demonstrate, and review the Leadership Principles with their team.Work Environment: * This job operates in the office. This role routinely uses office tools, office supplies, computers, and phones. It may also routinely operate a vehicle.Physical Demands: * The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.Travel: * This position requires up to 5% travel.Additional Requirements for Individual Role per Manager: * Strong analytical, problem solving, and time management skills * Experience using accounting software systems * Proves abilities administering and reporting accurate and current accounting information and potential risk assessments * Advances knowledge using Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook * Strong knowledge of federal and state accounting practices and rules * Understanding of all aspects of fund control including safeguards and tracking controls * Strong oral and written communication skills The above job description is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of duties and standards of the position.
