To quote myriad TNC staff members, "you join for our mission, you stay for our people."WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHERMaryland has a rich and vibrant coastline linked to the lives and livelihoods of its residents. TNC's mission in our climate adaptation and coastal resilience work is to preserve healthy habitats and communities across our state's changing landscape. As climate change impacts become more severe and frequent, Maryland's communities and natural resources will face - and are already facing - challenges, especially tied to coastal and urban flooding. Maryland/DC Chapter's Resilient Coasts, Stormwater, and Government Relations teams work across scales to improve the health and resiliency of Maryland's natural resources, urban, and coastal communities, often on the frontlines of climate change and facing historic underinvestment. The Climate Resilience Policy Intern will work as part of the Maryland/DC Government Relations team to assist in efforts to move climate resilience policy at the state level. Work will include assisting with policy research and review of climate focused grant programs being administered by MD state agencies, include MDNR, MDEM, MDE, and MDT. This project would be a continuation of previous work TNC has done to identify gaps in state funding and the equity considerations that are needed for grant programs to be more responsive to community needs. The intern will also assist with a coastal resilience focused climate adaptation policy development project. The work ties in with the larger funding issue areas and our team is developing a climate resilience policy package for the MD coastline and urban stormwater. The intern may assist in conversations with environmental and community partners, policy influencers, and provide support for in-person convening between these entities. The intern will be supervised by Humna Sharif, Climate Adaptation Manager for the chapter.
